Andrew Cameron, project manager with Hensel Phelps, will share his insights from pioneering 360-degree reality capture on his project, the $1.2 billion Harvey Milk Terminal 1 at the San Francisco International Airport, since 2016. He and his team of 16 field engineers have worked closely with HoloBuilder over the last three years to invent and build out many of the workflows and features that are essential on tens of thousands of construction sites around the world today, including 360-degree markups and the JobWalk app itself. He will discuss how to use 360-degree documentation to drive value on a billion-dollar project for the client, stakeholders, and his project team. He will also share his experiences of how to successfully partner with construction technology providers to build the technologies you always wanted. Through the lens of a vast, 270,000 sf greenfield pharmaceutical manufacturing facility project, CRB shares how their team flowed through multiple phases from design to operations for this advanced digital facility. Keep your total existing surface model (EG) in a state which is dynamic with the ever-developing site, so that your design team is aware of the status of the model and where the information has come from. This class will step you through creating a model from external survey information and additional topographical surveys along the way. Included are step-by-step instructions on how to manipulate surface data with your new topographical survey data versus your old superseded data. You will be able to process additional topographical survey information into a larger surface data set by taking control of your base survey data.

PCL Construction started flying drones on its projects more than 2 years ago. Today, it’s running a robust drone program on projects across North America, with dozens of pilots and hundreds of people using drone maps and models on a daily basis for site planning, progress tracking and reporting, quality control, and much more. In this session, PCL Construction and its drone partner, 3DR, will provide an inside look into how PCL built and scaled its drone program across the company. Underground utilities such as cables and conduits are rarely seen, and underground electrical vaults are complicated, dangerous, badly lit, and sometimes full of water or ice. Vaults are hard to access and records of what is inside of them will often be missing. Using cameras and ReCap 360 software, the Locates, Engineering, and Operations personnel at Anchorage Municipal Light & Power are creating 3D models of these assets in hard-to-reach underground vaults. They then use ReCap 360 software to make these 3D models available to utility personnel out in the field or back in the office.

This class looks at the solutions, products, and workflows which enable critical business decisions to be made using real-time information, including the following: Airfield Maps—providing a standard view of the airfield; Community Relations—mapping noise-compensation schemes and vortex strikes; Engineering and Services—providing up-to-date, accurate information on the services of a mini-city; Operational Views—providing awareness of the operational status of the airfield to key internal and external stakeholders (Stand, Blocks; Aircraft Tracking, Vehicle Tracking, Active Works); Space Map Views —providing the terminal floor plans mapped against the space lease data; Service Clearance and Permits—enabling contractors to undertake works within a highly controlled environment; Winter Resilience—enabling critical decision making tools within times of severe operational impact due to adverse weather. The class will provide an overview of the interfaces that make the aggregation of this data possible.

In this class we will cover the essentials of data backup and restoration of critical design information, and we'll differentiate between normal backup strategies and archival technologies and methods. We will also discuss data retention policies and requirements. We will explore several different technologies, both local and remote, for backing up mission-critical data, and we will discuss the necessity of archival storage and we'll explore the appropriate media to meet data-retentions requirements. The class will also cover disaster recovery planning and techniques to maintain business continuation and data security in extreme circumstances, from fires, to natural disasters, to zombie apocalypses.
