Description
Large rail and metro programs generate vast amounts of design data, yet information is often recreated or lost across phases and contracts. This session shows how infrastructure owners can apply OpenBIM strategies to truly 'design once, use many times.' Based on real metro and railway programs, it demonstrates how open standards especially IFC 4.3 enable consistent reuse of data from planning and design through construction, oversight, and long-term operations. Attendees will learn how owners can structure BIM requirements, governance models, and data workflows that support interoperability across multiple vendors and platforms, improving transparency, efficiency, and decision-making across the asset lifecycle.
Key Learnings
- Identify OpenBIM principles that enable data reuse across rail and metro project phases.
- Define IFC 4.3 use cases that support interoperability in linear infrastructure projects.
- Configure owner-side BIM requirements to prevent data silos and vendor lock-in.
- Assess “design once, use many times†workflows to improve lifecycle data governance.
