Katelyn Sanchez

1. What’s your current job role?
I am a VDC/BIM Coordinator for Cache Valley Electric.

2. What are your main areas of expertise and interest?
I specialize in Revit, Navisworks, and BIM 360 software to virtually design and construct major commercial buildings. I also specialize in process workflows and training.

3. What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy solving issues before they become a problem on-site.

4. What do you find most challenging about your work?
One of the most challenging parts of my role in the industry is bridging the gap of communication between design and construction.

5. What one thing should new graduates entering your field know?
They are not limited to one field in the construction industry. If you are willing to learn and enjoy what you do, the sky is the limit and you can create a great career for yourself!

6. If you could give your 16-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Keep working hard at what you love to do. There are great things ahead of you. Always keep smiling and don’t let others tell you that you can’t do something.

7. Who’s your greatest hero, real or fictional?
I have not just one hero, but 2. My parents show me what hard work and independence can do for me as a person. They believe in me when I don’t believe in myself.

8. What are you most proud of?
I think often about where I started and where I am now. I am proud that I am completely independent and do not have to rely on anyone else. I have built an amazing career for myself and love what I do. Every day is a new challenge and I face it head-on.

9. What new skill, personal or professional, would you most like to learn?
I have joined Cache Valley Electric within the past 6 months. I knew some general electrical basics in construction, but I am in the process of understanding more about the electrical side of the construction industry and the coordination processes and workflows of the subcontractor side. I am eager to learn!

10. What’s a fun fact that people may not know about you?
Most people don’t know that my foundation started with my love for woodworking. I am a Skills USA 2-time State Champion Cabinetmaker!

11. If you could have dinner with one person, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to have dinner with Amelia Earhart. Her courageous and ambitious attitude helped her be the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. She literally opened the skies to other women.
