This class gives an in-depth look into “how to setup” a virtual light booth as a VRED standard environment that reflects the behavior of the real world. The attendees will also learn about the VRED render pipeline, spectral raytracing, different techniques to measure and visualize light and gives a best practice to push the rendering close at possible to the real image. This class targets everyone who wants to compare and proof virtual materials with their real world examples under similar conditions.

The climate is changing, and sea levels are rising. This will have a catastrophic impact around the globe, especially for those who live in the Pacific Islands, as entire countries, cultures, and architectural artifacts are wiped off the map. As technology advances and becomes increasingly accessible, we now have tools to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Specifically, photogrammetry and virtual reality let us document artifacts at risk of submersion in order to support historic preservation efforts in the face of climate change. This session will present a recent project documenting archaeological and architectural ruins in Kosrae, Micronesia. The project supported effective decision making about the preservation of culturally significant artifacts by experiencing them from new points of view. To do this, the project investigated feasibility; developed workflows; and utilized drones, photogrammetry, virtual reality, and augmented reality toward the historic preservation of cultural artifacts.

This class offers an in-depth look at how to use VRED software as a platform with diverse output types serving a wide range of needs from one source. Undertaking a transition from an AutoCAD environment to Revit models at The Ohio State University (OSU) provided great value for the organization. Learn how OSU converted 32 million square feet, decreasing costs, gaining higher levels of accuracy and the ability to more effectively communicate with university stakeholders. Hear from OSU how they overcame several challenges, including how to standardize models, ways to automate repetitive work, getting the most value from Revit models, and sharing and extracting data from models for facilities use. Currently there are many engineering software systems designed to efficiently evaluate different structural solutions and/or strategies for reinforced concrete buildings. However, turning the adopted solution into a full Revit model (including rebars in RC elements) is still a very time-consuming task that diminishes the efficiency obtained in the previous analysis/design phase. Native Revit tools for rebar detailing are helpful if structural elements are limited in number, but they lack the required efficiency when working in middle- to large-size projects. In this class, you'll see the challenges faced, and the workflow and solutions used to develop a Dynamo tool that communicates via API with the finite element analysis software CSI ETABS 2016. This tool automatically puts the reinforcement of different structural elements (such as regular and irregular walls, columns, and beams) into the Revit model.

It seems like architects jumped on board with Revit®-based software from the beginning because it helps them produce more detailed designs and really doesn't add a lot of additional work. However, engineers have traditionally avoided the switch from AutoCAD® to Revit. In this roundtable, we will discuss the benefits of using Revit from both the architectural and engineering point of view. Architects can explain why engineers need to use Revit and engineers can defend sticking with AutoCAD. Construction managers can also weigh in on why it helps when the engineer produces a 3D model.

In this class will cover our way of achieving something that was dreamed of by visualization experts for years—physical accurate rendering in real time. The class will address the technical background, our path toward this goal, what was needed to achieve it, and application areas for this powerful technology and why it is so important for the automotive and other industries. VRED software is the product this class will be all about.

The class will be a lecture on the EQ house, the actually built architecture that AI and IoT deployed. It was completed in March of 2019. Installed with advanced IoT technology and AI, EQ House is expected to be attached by the owner as if it were life-like architecture. It is installed with varied sensors to perceive environmental status and accumulates data about the owner’s preference by means of “like” buttons from the smart watch. The experimental design, inspection, and fabrication process was also needed to actually realize the futuristic architecture of the EQ House. By using the optimization process, the design period to determine the pattern of the facade decreased by 60% and through the inspection using BIM 360 Docs software and mixed reality decreased 20%, and the fabrication by 25%.

This class will provide an overview of BIM implementation on one of the world's largest projects, the Panama Canal Third Set of Locks project which includes two massive lock facilities - one on the Atlantic side and another on the Pacific - each with three chambers and complex mechanical and electrical systems for locking Neo-Panamax vessels.BIM technology was used to manage the design and construction of this complex project.What if we started the Panama Canal Expansion today, with the dramatic advances in BIM that have occurred in only the last few years? With InfraWorks - which was not available during the planning phase - we can propose site design and road layout with GIS information. With Revit Parts - which was not available during the design phase - we can slice a model easily with sketch lines to produce the lift models for the concrete pouring sequence.With BIM 360 cloud services - also newly available - we can work better across regions and continents for design collaboration.Integrating these BIM tools with Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technologies, we can now better visualize our design during the construction process. This presentation will present a "what if" scenario, to study how the design of this mega-project would proceed today, and to propose a new design template for the future.
