BIM METHODOLOGY IMPLEMENTATION AT RIMA TALLER DE ARQUITECTURA FOR COMMERCIAL PROJECTS

RIMA Arquitectura is an architecture firm founded in 2004 and established in Mexico City, specialized in the development of architecture and interior design projects for commercial, corporate and residential spaces, with a high quality contemporary design. CHALLENGE At the beginning of 2020, RIMA Arquitectura was presented with the challenge of implementing the use of the BIM Methodology in the area of Commercial Projects. To this challenge, a determining factor was added - the start of the pandemic - which added the conditions of remote work to a team used to face-to-face work.

Project goals

The following priority project goals were identified: 1) Implement the BIM methodology for commercial projects while the GAPS of capacities and knowledge of the resources are resolved, seeking to standardize the level of knowledge of all the resources involved in the projects. 2) Integrate a team specialized in BIM to satisfactorily solve a pilot project, break the barriers of the pandemic and become efficient, and work as a team remotely.

Solution

A delegation was integrated to implement this Methodology, setting the following goals and deploying the following solutions: 1) Team Training 2) Development of a Pilot Project 3) Integration of a Specialized Team in BIM Methodology For this, the support in learning and certification in the use of the tools of the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) Collection was essential, as well as the online collaboration tools, which allowed RIMA Arquitectura to capitalize on the flexibility of remote work, to achieve compliance with each of their goals, and transforming the limitations derived from the pandemic into opportunities.

Business outcome

The result was better than expected. Today RIMA Arquitectura has developed two projects with this methodology, and has another two in process. In short, the advantages of the different Autodesk tools that are now used allows the team to provide solutions to the different stages of the project, from its preliminary approach to the coordination of engineering during the final phase of the design.

Conclusion

Looking to the future, RIMA Arquitectura is delving more into the possibilities offered by other solutions included in the AEC Collection that enables faster response times, and improved accuracy of the information. The team is also interested in exploring the use of BIM Collaborate to prepare for BIM Level 3. That allows us to approach a new challenge that we have set, which is to implement the BIM Methodology in all projects in the area.
