Freese and Nichols, a privately owned engineering, planning and consulting firm serving clients across the Southwest and Southeast United States with a consistently growing number of projects and engineers, realized a need to be able to effectively manage their engineering stamps and seals for all of their licensed engineers and for the states that they are licensed in along with making them easily accessible.

Project goals

Freese and Nichols had four goals they wished to achieve: 1) Create a database repository of their licensed Engineers' engineering stamps and seals (both textual, numerical and graphical information. 2) Allow for one person to maintain and manage the data, ensuring that it was always current and up-to-date. 3) Allow for their registered engineers to easily access that data from directly within Autodesk Revit, Civil 3d or AutoCAD. 4) Maintain a consistent standard of use across all projects.

Solution

The COINS development team met with Freese and Nichols and performed a needs analysis, process review and a function specification to develop a 3rd party add-in tool for Revit, Civil 3D and AutoCAD. COINS was able to offer Freese and Nichols an application that met all four of their goals.

Upon completion of the project, Freese and Nichols was able recognize a considerable return on investment with their engineers always having quick and up-to-date access to their stamps and seals that adhered to company and state standards.
