This class will introduce AutoCAD for Mac software and the special features it provides. In Release 2017, AutoCAD for Mac software has created an efficient, coherent, and more-Macintosh-compatible user interface. This includes an advanced toolset, toolbar, drawing tabs, and layout tabs, and a new command line and status bar. After this class, you will know how to use them and how to customize them. In addition, Datalink, Quick Select, Layer, and Visor are special features that are different from AutoCAD for Windows software. We will explain the benefits of these new features, and how they can help you to work faster. One common difficulty encountered by users of earlier versions of AutoCAD for Mac software is working on the same projects as AutoCAD for Windows software. In 2010, Autodesk, Inc., released AutoCAD for Mac software, but it was missing important features were missing that real drafters need on a daily basis. After 4 years the functionality gap has closed substantially. We will take a look at the features in the latest release of AutoCAD for Mac software, we'll examine how we can use these features in our daily workflow, and we'll discuss differences between the Mac and PC versions of the features that continue to exist. AutoCAD for Mac software has come a long way from the initial release, and you might be surprised how few reasons there are to not make the leap.

This class will take a deep-dive look at each of the new features added to the latest release of AutoCAD for Mac.

After a 17-year hiatus, AutoCAD for Mac software returned in 2010. Since its initial offering, Autodesk has improved stability and reliability and has added numerous features in every release. But what is different? Can it do everything the PC version can do? Can it do anything better? This direct, objective comparison of the 2 products looks at both the similarities and differences between both offerings and hopefully puts to rest some misconceptions about them. We also venture ever-so-slightly into a comparison of the general operating system features for those who are looking to either switch or set up their first office.

In this roundtable session, we discuss what you need to get started with AutoCAD® for Mac®. We also discuss and share knowledge about new and great tools to increase productivity and how to work more efficiently. Another discussion topic is how you can use AutoCAD® 360 (formerly AutoCAD® WS) to upload, share, download, collaborate, and edit your design.

AutoCAD software is a particularly extensible program, and that ability lets you alter the interface to suit your needs. This customizability isn't just altering where buttons are in the toolbars, but easily adding commands to both buttons, as well as to the menu bar. While AutoCAD for Mac software doesn't quite have all of the capabilities of the Microsoft Windows version, creating macros, adding commands to the menu, and utilizing basic LISP routines are all capabilities we can capitalize on in AutoCAD for Mac. This class will review how to use the CUI to add commands to the toolsets and menus, how to alter and add custom tool panels in the toolsets, and how to load LISP routines so they're accessible every time you load a drawing. We'll even learn how to write a few basic LISP routines to get you started.

This class will present strategies used to create cross-platform plug-ins taking advantage of C++ language in order to create core source code that could be used by AutoCAD software for Windows and by AutoCAD for Mac software. We will then demonstrate how to consume this shared core code into each platform, taking advantage of each specific user interface feature (Microsoft MFC, Microsoft .NET inside Windows, and Cocoa inside Mac OSX).

If you need to access APIs that aren't exposed through AutoLISP programming language, if you want to create applications that are optimized for large data sets, or if you need to build efficient applications for Windows and Mac OS, ObjectARX technology may be the most efficient API for you. This session provides hands-on experience using Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft Visual C++ to create and build an ObjectARX technology project that can be loaded into AutoCAD software. Prior experience with C++ programming language is helpful, but it is not required. However, you should have experience with AutoLISP programming language or Managed .NET. This is Part 2 of a 2-part series.

Many of the design applications we use today are platform agnostic; they can run on Windows or Mac OS without issue. However, most of these applications have differences or variations that can make loading one version versus another a bit jarring. In this class, we’ll focus on three different ways of running your design applications on an Apple computer: natively, virtually, and through disk partitioning. We’ll look at using native applications like AutoCAD for Mac software, using virtualization options like Parallels to run Windows as an application inside Mac OS, and dividing a hard drive into multiple sections that will run Windows as a separate operating system on your laptop or desktop. There are many factors to consider with any of these options, and we’ll review the pros and cons of each, as well as best practices.

In this class, a panel of experts from Autodesk, Inc., product support will share tips and tricks to help you become more productive, and they will answer questions from the audience about real-time problems. In this smaller roundtable format, attendees will receive more of a chance to describe problems they face day to day, and receive advice from the speakers as well as other attendees. A website will be set up so those attending can log questions before the session and give the experts time to research and provide credible answers. There will also be dedicated time for attendees to ask questions that were not submitted beforehand. A computer will be set up in the class with AutoCAD 2016 software for any attendees who need to demonstrate their problems.
