Autodesk Consulting Add-on Utilities: COBie Toolkit and BIM Coordinator Tool

In this class, we will discuss recent Autodesk Consulting projects with a focus on two new utilities that we are using to help customers. First, we will present the functionality of the COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange) Toolkit for Autodesk® Revit® software. COBie is a United States-originated data standard for exchange of building systems information between designers, construction firms, and building owners. The format for delivering construction handover data is a predefined spreadsheet file with specific worksheets, many of which can be populated directly from a Revit intelligent model. The standard has recently been adopted by the United Kingdom and tested on pilot projects using the evolving Revit COBie Toolkit. Next, we will discuss BIM Coordinator. This technology preview, available from Autodesk Labs, assists project team members with building and site grids in Revit and AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software to effectively organize the project data in shared or related coordinates. This utility is essential for spatial collaboration across disciplines.

Why Digital Prototyping Integrations Fail: Building a Data Model for Operational Success

Digital Prototypings often fail not because of technology, but due to misalignment between data and operational reality. In this session, we’ll explore what goes wrong when Digital Prototypings are handed over to FM teams, and we’ll present a tested solution: a facility template and data model built for real-world operations, with a focus on Sustainable Design and insights enabled by artificial intelligence (AI). Developed using Autodesk Tandem software and integrated with Planon, the template supports both short- and long-term operational needs. You’ll learn how we moved beyond COBie by using data models to define information requirements that support lifecycle management, while ensuring Sustainable Design metrics are captured and used for AI-driven decisions. We’ll also examine why Digital Prototypings are disruptors, highlighting knowledge gaps, process flaws, and data ownership issues. This session will provide a framework to rethink how you capture, structure, and deliver building data—not just for project closeout, but for long-term operational value.

From Drawings to Data

The world is moving from dead to live information. In the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, this means a number of changes. One of the biggest ones is the disappearance of drawings caused by the availability of model data. The main drivers for this change are model-based construction and model-based operations and maintenance. Contractors and building owners are now requiring vast amounts of standardized and consistent data as part of their design team's deliveries. The problem everyone faces in this change is that the tools used for creating this data are file-based systems made for delivering consistent drawing sets. Instead of displaying three parameters in a tag on a drawing accompanied by a schedule in Revit software, design teams’ need to deliver hundreds of consistent properties connected with model elements across contracts. In this talk, we’ll go through how design teams can adjust their processes to adapt to this change, and how contractors and building owners can manage it effectively.

CIA in Action! BIM Our Own Central Intelligence Agent!

BIM is no longer a buzzword, but are we using its full potential? BIM still sits comfortably as a sophisticated 3D modeling tool, while it is meant to do more—much more. Are we using it as a catalyst to our workflow or a glorified tool to generate models, coordinate between disciplines, and produce drawings. And then? That’s it. The rich data embedded in those models is often ignored, unlinked, or siloed. It’s time to get serious, understand its impact on project lifecycle, and learn about the ROI it can provide to its stakeholders. Let’s see how BIM can work harder for you, turning it from a cost center into a value generator.
