SAMSUNG C&T uses digital twins to optimize building operations. We have developed a digital twin with BIM and AI in an office building with a total floor area of 100,000 square meters, and we are utilizing it to operate the building. The basic functions are the Energy/Asset/Space Management, and Virtual Tours. In particular, the energy management function monitors building energy usage in real time. And we have developed 10 solutions for energy management that can save energy while maintaining the comfort of occupants in the building. These solutions are derived through AI-based machine learning models and optimization algorithms to provide real-time notifications to building operators for sustainable and optimized building energy management. Therefore, SAMSUNG C&T aims to provide efficient building operation and management services by simultaneously implementing digital spaces, going beyond the role of a construction company that constructs physical spaces.

Edwards' unique approach involves an extensive digital asset library and FlexSim-optimized processes, promoting lean and agile manufacturing and rapid enhancements in production, and boosting business performance. Using a novel digital-twin approach that effectively integrates its business processes enables Edwards to evaluate the impact its operations have on market trends and business cycles, and to support investment decisions in equipment, facilities, and workforce.

How efficiently are your products getting from production to warehouse to shipping docks? As you consider new factory designs to improve these material-handling processes, it's critical to have a complete understanding of how your resources and processes interconnect. When Cardinal Glass wanted to optimize its material handling to minimize shipping delays from the factory, the company used simulation with FlexSim to validate its proof of concept and discover new improvement opportunities. The simulation helped to rebalance the workload and identify a reconfiguration that led to a 29% decrease in shipping operation time. This also formed the basis for a digital twin that enables real-time optimization of warehouse goods storage and dock assignments, with daily assignment, location, and maintenance recommendations.

Utilities, retailers, hospital operators, towercos, and other companies may need to digitalize large portfolios with thousands of existing facilities to complete their digital journeys—either to fully benefit from building information modeling (BIM) in design and construction or as a first step for the creation of their digital twins. Those same companies typically have an inventory database that is either incorrect or incomplete, but that has value nonetheless, since it may be used to connect said assets with other enterprise solutions, including maintenance and operations management. In this technical instruction session, we will present a workflow for the end-to-end digitalization of a portfolio of facilities using a component-based approach. This workflow starts with any existing inventory, uses it in Autodesk Construction Cloud Assets and Forms to capture on-site data, then switches to Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro software and Autodesk Docs software for the intelligent modeling of the facilities, and then again moves back to the Assets functionality for audit and validation.

Our industry is changing, and the way we collaborate and deliver must change with it. This change is having disruptive effects on how infrastructure is planned, engineered, and constructed. Digital twins (or virtual representations of the real world, including physical objects, processes, relationships, and behaviors) are promising to be a solution to creating deliverables that provide centralized, purpose-built access to stakeholders along the design and construction supply chain. We are at a time when the distance between building information modeling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS) is shrinking, and emerging workflows require sharing new system engagement views with more collaborators, including asset owners. Although some customers are seeing the benefit of a digital twin, others wonder how best to modernize their approach to reduce risk, increase transparency in infrastructure asset delivery, and bridge information gaps between project and operator participants.

In 2018, Italian Railways launched a project to help its 630 stations meet sustainable management standards, leading to savings in water and energy use. FSTechnology, a division of Italian Railways, integrated Esri and Autodesk software to improve workflows for survey, design, and maintenance of its railway stations. Interoperability between Autodesk Construction Cloud, Civil 3D, and Esri ArcGIS enables a digital twin of the entire network. A GIS web app of the whole Italian network, including every site and station, was developed to monitor the status of the entire system. An interactive dashboard allows the management team to keep an eye on the KPI and take action whenever needed. FSTechnology is currently working to include Autodesk Tandem in the workflow to collect data from IoT devices, such as meters or sensors.

We'll explore the main challenges and benefits obtained by implementing digital processes to manage the design and validation phases within the Italian public contracting authority (Anas), using Revit, Civil 3D, and InfraWorks software for design and Navisworks software for checking/validation via the interoperable Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) format. Finally, we will present the potential applications planned for the construction stage, with the aim of speeding up the contractor's inspection and payment activities, and for the operations and maintenance stage, with the aim of improving the quality of operations using the digital twin.

An indoor geographic information system (indoor GIS) is a comprehensive geospatial system designed to create, manage, analyze, and map indoor data. It enables a shared understanding of your facility operations, leading to improved efficiency and engagement. Serving as a foundational digital twin, indoor GIS enables visualization, wayfinding, analysis, and management of interior spaces within buildings. This industry talk will focus on the consolidation of project-based CAD/building information modeling (BIM) floorplans into an indoor GIS, which can then function as an operational system of record. You'll gain insights into strategies for updating project and operational data as they change over time. And you'll discover various tools and techniques to support data synchronization workflows that align with your organization's specific strengths and requirements.

New manufacturing techniques and innovative materials are making us rethink infrastructure creation, but they've also raised a need for closer structural health monitoring. Autodesk Research collaborated with MX3D to create the world's first 3D-printed steel bridge, and then with Dar Al-Handasah to 3D print a series of bridges from sustainable (recycled and recyclable) material. We drove the effort to add "smarts” to both bridges via sensor networks that capture data about their use. The bridges were modeled as digital twins using innovative visualization technology that has been integrated into Autodesk Platform Services and Autodesk Tandem software. These twins visualize the stress on the bridges' structures as people walk across them. Given the popularity of the 5-meter Dar bridge exhibited at Autodesk University 2022 in New Orleans, we wanted to show more details of our work on these iconic projects, and how they might influence the future of smart and sustainable infrastructure.
