How the Florida Department of Transportation Uses Civil 3D for Quantifying Design Projects

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) workflows require everything placed or drawn to have magical Xdata attached which contains pay item number(s) and compute methods (formulas). This session will demonstrate the applications within our FDOT Civil 3D 2026 State Kit that facilitate how to seamlessly design and run automated summary reports to obtain an accurate accounting of our State infrastructure projects. The applications we will demonstrate will include Entity Manager, FDOT Signs, Pavement Marking tool, Place Block Group, and FDOT Takeoff Manager.

ACC for Civil Infrastructure Projects: It's What Highly Productive BIM Coordinators and CAD Managers Crave

This interactive lab will be an accelerator that will teach BIM coordinators and CAD managers how to effectively use Autodesk Construction Cloud to manage civil infrastructure projects with modern cloud-based tools. We’ll take an immersive approach to learning: The class will be split up into disciplines, simulating a real project. The disciplines will work together to federate a project model using preprepared files. We’ll start with the basics of recommended file organization in Autodesk Docs, set up our coordination space in Modeling, walk through best practices for exporting and coordinating discipline-specific models, run a mock clash-detection meeting, create/organize and report on our Autodesk Construction Cloud Issues, and then archive our project simulating a milestone submittal. Many of the default coordination tools in Autodesk Construction Cloud are built with vertical construction in mind. But there’s a world of value for horizontal construction as well—you just have to know how to unlock it!

From Data Sludge to Liquid Gold: Transforming the Future of Water Infrastructure Through Digital Prototypings
Water infrastructure owners and operators face poor asset information handover due to system misalignment. Could Automation, Integration, & Customization and integrated data enable Digital Prototypings to support operational efficiency, reduce rework and costs, and improve health and safety (H&S)? Learn how GHD successfully used client-focused data exchange and cloud collaboration during the 40MLD upgrade of Wellington Water Limited’s Te Mārua water treatment plant to ease these struggles. Automating the integration of asset information using Autodesk products enabled delivery of the asset register 12 months early—saving NZ$150,000 and 1,400 hours in asset data management. Combining Esri mobile apps and dashboards enhanced as-built quality and reduced site H&S risks. A proof of concept was developed where GeoBIM and Autodesk Docs software were fused to create a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) common data environment (CDE)—the foundation for an operations and maintenance Digital Prototyping. We’ll share valuable lessons on managing evolving data needs and supply chains to demonstrate how connected workflows made Project Delivery more efficient.

BIM on Track: Interdisciplinary Design for Large-Scale Railway Projects
Railway projects include many disciplines: rail superstructure, civil works, tunnels, viaducts, road bridges, culverts, systems, and so on. In large-scale international projects, many parties are involved in the design and construction process. And the integration of all information in Autodesk Construction Cloud coming from different tools—such as InfraWorks, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks Manage, and Twinmotion—enables the full BIM methodology implementation on a railway project. Autodesk tools also allow stakeholders to manage the project in the real geographical context, and to facilitate the production of photorealistic videos and virtual reality (VR) experiences for stakeholder engagement.

Resilient infrastructure demands smarter design—especially as flood risks rise and environmental targets tighten. In this industry talk, we’ll explore how evolving regulatory and environmental challenges in the United Kingdom have shaped the way we approach surface water management on major infrastructure programs. In the past—while working with large, complex sites and multiple data-rich models—we’ve faced limitations in relation to integration, scale, and design flexibility. By transitioning to new approaches and tools such as InfoDrainage software, we’ve unlocked new efficiencies in design workflows, enabled spatial coordination, and better supported the delivery of sustainable, resilient systems. With case studies from recent UK projects, we’ll also touch on the integration of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and green infrastructure to meet climate goals and protect the environment. Data driven collaboration in the battle against rising tides.
In response to increasingly complex engineering challenges and the urgent need for sustainable solutions, seamless digital collaboration has become crucial. Haskoning has pioneered a data-driven interoperability approach that harnesses the power of Autodesk tools such as Revit and Civil3D, alongside proprietary digital tools and calculation modules, through the 'DataFusr' platform. This innovative platform, supporting 300+ users and 150+ projects, facilitates scalable digital collaboration across our organization, driving future innovations. Our Dike Resilience Suite exemplifies this approach, offering a parametric toolset for dike reinforcement studies. By integrating diverse calculation modules and software tools, including those from partners and clients, we enable project teams of up to 20 engineers to develop reliable and collaborative dike designs efficiently and effectively. A single team is now able to execute 4 long-running projects in parallel, instead of consecutively.

BIM As-Is: SCAN-2-BIM As It Should Be
In São Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, modeling underground infrastructure involves complex technical and data challenges. This case study will present the first Brazilian project to apply SCAN-2-BIM with IFC 4.3 interoperability in an active metro tunnel—part of the Line 2-Green extension, more than 40 meters deep. Reality capture was done entirely with terrestrial laser scanning (TLS). The point cloud was semantically classified and feature-extracted in ReCap software. Modeling was automated using Civil 3D software with Dynamo and Subassembly Composer, while coordination and export were handled via Navisworks and IFC 4.3 from Civil 3D. The team overcame issues of data volume, accuracy, and integration. This pioneering project also defined asset-agnostic workflows for SCAN-2-BIM in linear infrastructure—scalable and reusable across future projects.

Digital Project Delivery: The Keystone to a Sustainable Built Environment
Sustainable Design is a pipe dream if you cannot accurately predict, model, and monitor your building’s content and energy usage. Without digital project delivery focused on the specific needs of the building end use—not the needs of national or international standards—we cannot even begin to accurately and predictably lower the energy used by and embodied within our built assets.
