InfoWorks ICM assists engineers and designers in understanding the impacts projects have on the environment. Extreme events continue to stress local and regional civil infrastructure, and our tools and techniques must change as we design projects in our communities. InfoWorks ICM enables team collaboration and empowers engineers to reach beyond single-purpose tools to evaluate various options against a multitude of rainfall events within the context of the entire watershed. This technical instruction class will help users through a number of considerations to preserve Civil 3D designs in evaluation of possible flood damages across the wide range of flood scenarios.

With our post-pandemic industry emerging into a new normal, our designers and engineers are now looking to technology to enhance collaboration and improve efficiency. With Civil 3D software we now have functionality to provide users with standards to drive consistency in workflows. We’ll review the process GHD developed to restructure Civil 3D templates, providing its teams with the necessary standardization and functionality—from small sites to large building information modeling (BIM) megaprojects. We’ll show you how to rethink template deployment, and what content to distribute. Learn how to restructure your templates using the best practice uses. We’ll share some of our tricks to maximize the benefits templates can offer. Using Dynamo and reference templates, we’ll demonstrate how we used property sets to automate the way GHD enriches the metadata in our intelligent models. We’ll cover the initial challenges, solutions, and ways we improved efficiency and realized more project cost savings.

Pressure networks in Civil 3D software have been around for a long time, yet very few people use them. A major reason has been that the tools have been difficult to use. Good news! This has all changed with Civil 3D 2021. Pressure networks received a major overhaul that make using them worth the switch from gravity pipe networks, or whatever stopgap measure you might be using. We’ll demonstrate how to use pressure networks for watermain, maximizing the new path-based workflow that links pressure pipe runs to alignments and profiles. Gone are the days of individual part-based design, including weird bend rotations and clumsy vertical design. Whether you only show watermain in plan, or need full profile and sections views, pressure networks are the way to go moving forward. Managing geotechnical data in Civil 3D software has been a challenge throughout the years. Autodesk has introduced the Geotechnical Modeler extension for Civil 3D 2022. With this free extension you can export subsurface data from gINT or other methods and create CSV files that will import directly into Civil 3D. This data will enable you to display your borehole sticks in plan view or on a profile, and even export them for 3D use in InfraWorks software. We’ll review the workflow of how to manage your data with a local database, then import that data into an existing Civil 3D project. Then we’ll focus on creating stratum surfaces and subsurface profiles from that data. We’ll also review the sample files and the config file, manipulating them to change the styles of our boreholes—including hatch patterns at a certain scale. The end result will be a dynamically linked drawing containing geotechnical data completely compatible with your Civil 3D design.

This session will highlight the latest tunnel-design capabilities in InfraWorks software, and how HNTB is adopting these new tools and workflows to design and document complex underground tunnels for clients. See how Autodesk has been working with HNTB to advance InfraWorks software’s latest features in the tunnel-design process, and learn more about its integrations with Inventor software, Civil 3D software, and Revit software.

Since 2015, engineering companies have been developing their abilities to use Autodesk technologies in the automation of the modeling of linear civil infrastructures such as bridges and tunnels. But what about all the other railway linear infrastructures disciplines—such as fencing, hydraulic structures, track, catenary, and tunnel MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) elements—that need to be fully integrated in the design? In this class, we’ll review how we can enhance intelligent modeling automation workflows in Revit software and Civil 3D software for these disciplines. We’ll use the example of the Etihad Rail project where SYSTRA has developed a large-scale automation strategy using the in-house solution BIMinOneClick. This class is subject to our customer agreement, “Etihad Rail.”

In this session, we’ll combine the power of InfraWorks software and InfoDrainage to locate and design basins for a proposed 5,000-lot subdivision in Colorado. You’ll learn how to import the architect’s lot layout and overlay on the existing Civil 3D surface in InfraWorks. We’ll cover how to export new locations into Civil 3D, and how to lay out basin, pipes, swales, channel, and so on in InfoDrainage. Once set up and fully tested, repeating the process with new architect layouts will be a breeze!

We’ll start with understanding various workflows to get your project up in the cloud. Once there, we'll use collaborative tools in the Autodesk Forge Viewer API to create markups and annotations that can be synced down to the project locally. We'll cover how teammates and partners can consume your data in other products like Revit software, Civil 3D software, and InfraWorks software. Lastly, we'll discuss where the product may be heading, and how that could affect current workflows. Whether you’re a surveyor or a BIM manager tasked with managing point cloud data, you’ll find value in this course.

In this class, FSTechnology will showcase how to achieve up to 40% in overall time reduction for some site supervision activities by automating the estimation of the site’s physical progress and of cut-and-fill volumes. This class will illustrate two workflows that you can apply to both building information modeling (BIM) projects and traditional project drawings. The first fully automated workflow calculates the progress of the construction works, starting from the exchange on Autodesk Construction Cloud of all point cloud data coming from drone surveys. The main steps are the production of simplified railways track path models in Revit software, the performance of a bespoke clash detection in Navisworks software to assess the works’ progress, and the interpretation of the XML output with .NET scripts to feed a Microsoft Power BI dashboard. The second workflow generates DEM (digital elevation model) surfaces from point clouds via a Python script to then calculate cut-and-fill volumes with Dynamo in Civil 3D. The results are also exported as a structured data source for a Microsoft Power BI dashboard.

Parsons will highlight the capabilities available within an airport digital twin by showing our work to support the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport digital twin project. The digital twin includes a main runway and passenger terminal. We’ll detail our work to help define digital governance standards, develop a runway-specific asset ontology, and integrate data across multiple source systems: Civil 3D software, Revit software, Infor EAM, Johnson Controls, Veoci Part 139 airfield inspection software, Esri GIS, and ViewMondo weather station data running within the Microsoft Azure Digital Twins cloud. The twin provides real-time updates via Internet of Things (IOT) runway sensors that specify temperature, surface temperature, humidity, and water film. This session will share unique insights and lessons learned regarding the technical and management workflows to plan and execute a digital twin for critical infrastructure assets. Large and complex projects often present large and complex problems that can last a lifetime if not properly managed. One of those problems can be establishing the appropriate geolocation of buildings on a site, or, in Revit-speak, "shared coordinates." As we explore two Bavarian-inspired destination towns that have been years in the making, and are worth billions of dollars in investment, time, and coordination, we’ll analyze how time can cause geographical data to shift and leave a place in space not where you thought it once was. Understand how this impacts existing built work and causes anticipated construction schedules to shift, and see how to reestablish shared coordinates in multiple platforms (Revit software, Civil 3D software, AutoCAD software, Navisworks software) to prevent miscommunications and downtime before it happens. The translation of data from party to party throughout the lifecycle of a project is vital. With Autodesk's acquisition of PlanGrid and release of Autodesk Construction Cloud there are several tools that assist in the flow of project information. This class will show various workflows not only with the supported software tools like Revit, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD Plant 3D, but also with approval workflows, RFIs, submittals, ways sheets flow through a project, and ways you can use Autodesk Construction Cloud Connect to transfer data across different cloud platforms. This class will inspire you to expand your use of Autodesk Construction Cloud.

In the design industry collaboration is always at the forefront of our minds. How can we better coordinate data between multi-disciplinary teams? What is the data normally isolated by Civil 3D could be linked to a Revit site model? With the integration of Civil 3D and Revit, the gates between multi-disciplinary silos, become freer and more open. Gone are the days of having to import Civil backgrounds into you model and “clean” that data up for use, only to have repeat that process when drawings are revised. By linking Civil 3D directly to Revit, you gain the benefits or a “live” link to seamlessly update data. In this session we will gain an understanding of how to link Civil 3D to Revit, analyze the data from Civil 3D to create specific views, incorporate Revit Site models into existing workflows, recognize the collaboration benefits within multi-disciplinary environment, and how to export Revit data back to Civil 3D to form a complete integration loop.

The possibility to make anything can be overwhelming. Sometimes you just need a picture, a plan, or a push in the right direction. If you don’t know where to start in using Dynamo for Civil 3D, but you’re eager to know what can and cannot be easily automated, then this class is for you. In this class, we’ll walk through the specific steps of creating scripts in Dynamo for Civil 3D. These scripts will automate some of the mundane tasks you do in each of your designs. Whether that's placing a legend on multiple sheets, changing text to all upper case, turning on and off layers, adjusting line types of your design based on the type of plan sheet you are creating, or inserting trees at a specific interval along an alignment—Dynamo can do it! At the end of this class, you’ll understand the basics, and you’ll have a few time-saving tools to use within your own projects, and the knowledge of how they were created.

This session will showcase how Autodesk Infraworks is being used to develop a high-resolution 3D existing conditions model of Interstate 84 /Route 8 interchange in Waterbury, Connecticut commonly referred to as “The Mixmaster”. This Infraworks model will be utilized by our design team during the development of “The New Mix”…a CTDOT program dedicated to planning for the long-term future of the Interstate 84 / Route 8 Interchange in Waterbury, Connecticut. During this session we’ll share tips and tricks for complex bridge modeling in Infraworks, as well as how we approached the use of 2D & 3D data coming from other sources such as Civil 3D, Nearmap, Sketchup, and Studio Max.

Flowell by Colas is a dynamic road signaling, helping security and road congestion. Generative design was applied to design the electrical component of this project. The solution starts from an existing condition 2D drawing in DWG, creates the optimal configuration for the electrical network and creates a detailed model in Revit. It is an application of generative design to solve complex design challenges in the electrical discipline and support the decision process. A scalable methodology that opens new possibilities for more effective collaboration to validate ideas early on. It leverages computational design via Dynamo for Civil 3D, design optimization via Generative Design and automation via Dynamo for Revit. Visual programming is extended with Python modules to interact with different software and manage intelligent electrical objects. The generative design study uses electrical objects and implements the designer preferences to create the network.
