This presentation is centered on optimizing the performance of your desktop or laptop workstation for your design workflows. The concepts covered are relevant to AEC, industrial machinery, Revit, Inventor, and even AutoCAD—though some tweaks may be necessary based on the specific software, and I will give those. Given that many of us depend on AutoCAD for sharing designs and generating printouts, mastering these setup strategies can significantly save time, especially when handling large datasets/drawings. By thoughtfully configuring your system and software, we will consider how it interacts with other applications so you can improve overall performance across all your design tools.

Reality Capture has been in the industry since the late 1990’s where it has evolved from it’s tripod-based roots into encompassing many different forms of data capture of today. One could easily make an argument that Reality Capture has also grown from a handful of sensors to now a wide variety of processes. Regardless of where the data comes from, there has been one consistent and constant challenge that professionals still face. What to do with the volumes of data Reality Capture creates and how to make meaningful deliverables. This session will look at a brief history of Reality Capture as well as provide insight on how Leica CloudWorx continues to provide powerful tools for converting massive point cloud data into meaningful 3D models, 2D CAD drawings, and topographic deliverables. Furthermore, many tools in Leica CloudWorx serve as enhancements to the standard CAD tools that are in the various Autodesk suite of software packages.

This interactive lab will be an accelerator that will teach BIM coordinators and CAD managers how to effectively use Autodesk Forma to manage civil infrastructure projects with modern cloud-based tools. We’ll take an immersive approach to learning: The class will be split up into disciplines, simulating a real project. The disciplines will work together to federate a project model using preprepared files. We’ll start with the basics of recommended file organization in Forma Data Management, set up our coordination space in Modeling, walk through best practices for exporting and coordinating discipline-specific models, run a mock clash-detection meeting, create/organize and report on our Autodesk Forma Issues, and then archive our project simulating a milestone submittal. Many of the default coordination tools in Autodesk Forma are built with vertical construction in mind. But there’s a world of value for horizontal construction as well—you just have to know how to unlock it!
