Designing timber connections is critical to ensure the structural integrity of timber constructions. An artificial system for designing timber connections would typically involve a combination of computational algorithms, databases of material properties, and engineering principles. Integrating AI systems with a code-checking system in Revit software allows engineers to explore different solutions and be certain of compliance with calculation regulations. Grouping and optimizing nodes, analyzing new node solutions, and automatically creating calculation reports in Revit can greatly reduce modeling and analysis efforts. We will also present a system capable of inserting nodes automatically and designing them according to the calculation actions present in Revit.

With new technologies emerging, we're always on the road to explore the digital factory. In this class, we'll share the best practices and approaches regarding the digital factory. First, drive increased efficiency of the factory design and optimization based on CAD workflow and FlexSim process simulation, which is essential for the digital factory. Next, ensure the objects can be tracked throughout the whole lifecycle; we built a "Factory Object TAG Rules" system for digital delivery. Finally, connected IoT devices help realize digital twins to streamline, automate, and predict tasks. And we explore AI to reinforce human intelligence so that it can achieve more.

This session will look at the full parametrization of an automated rebar modeling and drawing extraction used for infrastructure projects using Civil 3D, Revit, and Dynamo. This idea advances the automation of building information modeling (BIM) for bridge and tunnel reinforcement by developing a novel workflow in Germany's most progressive state, THE LÄND. Using a parametric template for rebars, the study integrates Dynamo, facilitating the automatic generation of intelligent models and rebar schedules. This method was successfully applied to real, large-scale, bridge and tunnel projects, demonstrating its effectiveness. The workflow enables automatic extraction of detailed rebar drawings and annotations. By streamlining project execution and enhancing data coherence, this integrated approach significantly improves BIM lifecycle management for infrastructure construction. The underlying ontology connecting normative requirements, FE results, and our long-term experience is the final step on our road map for an AI-based reinforcement generation.

Bridge construction in Norway in 2024 is a different ballgame than it was in 2015. We've transitioned to full digital design and construction without drawings. This would have been impossible without a rich Revit API. We've created our own add-in, scaling from 10 users in 2019 to 1,300 users in 2024. What a success! But the challenge has not been object-oriented coding in C#, but rather scaling the knowledge. How can we scale technology efficiently and fast? What are the obstacles? Do all bridge engineers need to understand back end, front end, and UX? A cross-industry technology fusion! We used Autodesk Generative Design software to create an adaptive connector bracket for robot-operated 3D scans of ancient structures. ReCap software and Dynamo helped us study traditional construction methods and enrich our restoration efforts. This report covers our process in Autodesk Fusion 360 software, including entering design parameters and extracting constraints from the historical site. It explains how we turned the bracket's requirements into criteria for rapid iteration and selection, quickly finding the best solution. It also explains how ReCap processed robot-collected point cloud data to investigate architectural principles and features of ancient buildings in Southern China. Finally, it describes how Dynamo converted these insights into automated building information modeling (BIM) scripting, bridging historical knowledge with modern technology for efficient restoration practices.

This session will also offer insights into future rail advances, with a particular focus on how digital twins can be used in the evolution of railway operations into intelligent, secure, and environmentally conscious systems.

For several years, KLH Engineers has led efforts to bridge the gap between AutoCAD and Revit software through machine learning, enhancing our deliverable by building intelligent models from CAD plans. Expanding on our foundational work from 2019, our tool now automatically generates Revit wall elements with precise thickness from AutoCAD drawings, eliminating the problem of thin wall creation and significantly saving time. In this session, we'll demonstrate how machine learning is integral to our process. We have incorporated advanced algorithms that accurately place door and window families within Revit models, using AutoCAD data to inform our workflow and put the "I" back in building information modeling (BIM). Join us to see these advancements in action and learn how they can enhance your design process, making it faster, smarter, and more precise.

This session is a high-level strategy road map of how companies with a large project portfolio can use Autodesk Forma to take pragmatic steps within the Autodesk Forma user interface to benefit both in the short term and long term. We'll use real-world examples using Amazon Transportation Engineering Services (TES) as a case study. We'll work through the practical planning of using cornerstone Autodesk Forma features such as Issues and Forms, and we'll look at how building on the use of these features can lead to powerful QuickSight dashboards, and, later, robust machine learning. The presentation will be broken down into three categories: 1) The Foundation: using out-of-the-box Autodesk Forma features with specific use cases; 2) The Frame: building automations and integrations to aid in manual efforts (with a focus on Autodesk Platform Services); and 3) The Roof: advanced machine learning and AI using Amazon Web Services (AWS). For each of these categories, we'll investigate the appropriate tools available in our toolbox (Autodesk Platform Services and AWS).
