This session is a case study to be presented by two engineers from CRAFT Engineering Studio, NY: Martyn Sheard & Trevor Chou – supported by Ralph Pullinger from IDEA StatiCa. The Case Study will show how CRAFT designed and coordinated a complex single family residence in Martha’s Vineyard, MA. Originally conceived primarily in steel, both client and architect wished to move to a wood solution requiring imaginative structural solutions and workflows. Using AutoCAD, Revit and BIM 360 for drafting and coordination alongside Robot for analysis in combination with a specialist 3rd party timber design package, the design culminated in CRAFT leveraging IDEA StatiCa connection for the complex joint design. This class aims to show the implementation of a powerful Common Data Environment, using ACC & BIM360 platforms combined with an application developed in Forge, for the management of hospital project data. With the Grand Paris North Hospital project, intended to be the largest hospital in Paris, France, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Brunet Saunier Architecture, we will explain the implementation of data workflows in order to build optimized circuits to involve all project stakeholders, planners, owner, users, architects and all engineers’ firms with Collaborate Pro and Docs (design collaboration, model coordination and issues management) More than 100 people! We will show how a connected Forge application will collect data from ACC in order to push automation processes in data analysis and deliverables creation. We will do a live demonstration of this real Forge-based BIM Data Checker enabling data processes throughout the project life cycle, from plan to operation.
Generative design is a powerful tool that requires technical knowledge that doesn’t necessarily align with how designers work. This class will explore four key strategies for integrating generative design into product and industrial design: 1) Understanding best practices for setting up a generative design study, and determining how much modeling work is needed prior to running the study. 2) Obtaining outcomes that align with the design’s original vision. It’s common to see designers grow frustrated as they run several studies that create shapes that are unusable as actual components of a product. 3) Understanding in practical terms details related to forces, constraints, and other technical information that is not commonly used in product design, and that might affect the effectiveness of the generative outcomes. 4) Understanding how to best merge generative design geometry with other components that have been modeled directly in Fusion 360 software.

More the connection speed, more the reaction time, so interoperability plays a vital role in our day-to-day design collaboration that helps with flexible production lines and reduced integration costs. Many industrial machinery and manufacturing industries have realized the benefits of using both 2D and 3D CAD software together and the list of reasons is long, including better collaboration, increased efficiency and to name a few. In those cases, it’s important that your data remains fully associative. In all such scenarios, AutoCAD Mechanical provides a feature called "Inventor link" that enables you to link Autodesk Inventor assembly (.iam) and part (.ipt) documents to a drawing file and display the 3D model in model space. After that, you can generate 2D drawings of the 3D model in paper space and annotate them. This class aims to show how well you can make use of the Inventor link feature in AutoCAD Mechanical for increased efficiency, reduced time, and better collaboration.

Get on the road to cloud-cloud integration between geographic information system (GIS) and BIM (Building Information Modeling) with ArcGIS GeoBIM and Construction Cloud software. This instructional demo will showcase customer examples of the benefits gained from the fusion of geography and BIM data for project portfolio management, collaboration, and construction project insights informed by geography. By following best practices for geolocating intelligent models, AutoCAD software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, and Revit software, users can help ensure effective integration of these models in GIS. This reduces the cost of integration by ensuring upfront data quality. To facilitate this, ArcGIS GeoBIM provides analytics to identify documents with geolocation errors. Managing and visualization issues during the design, construction, and handover of BIM projects is crucial for financial and operational performance. We will show how the integration of GIS and BIM with project and issue performance dashboards significantly improves insights into these critical aspects of project management.
Marvin Windows had developed their own data management platform, and had successfully used it for many years. With tribal knowledge leaving and technology changing it was time to move towards a more standard approach. However some things in Marvin Docs needed to remain, so migrating all of their data, and then integrating some workflows back to Marvin Docs became the focus. To put what's happening today and what might happen tomorrow in context, it makes sense to go back in history. 25 years ago, Autodesk acquired Softdesk. Shortly afterward, Jesse Devitte became the founding leader for Autodesk's AEC Market Group. Just over 20 years ago, Meridian Systems was sold to Trimble; Jeff Herriman represented Turner Construction in the sale. Jesse and Jeff will offer their perspectives on construct tech development from their unique vantage points.
Inventor users: Have you heard of Infraworks? And Infraworks/Revit users: Have you heard of Inventor? This class bridges the knowledge gap that exists between Inventor and Infraworks users, providing an advanced demonstration of the powerful functionality achieved when using these two products together. I’ll show how to create dynamic Inventor models with capabilities that function once brought into Infraworks. Instruction will include setting up iLogic codes to function in Infraworks/Inventor server; providing examples of codes proven to work; showing how these models can be 'Flexed' and 'Instanced' in Infraworks; highlighting the downstream benefits of models in Inventor/Infraworks; and propagating models into Civil3D and Revit for further detailing and project drawings. Effective cultural and organizational change adoption has become a core competency for firms, in today’s rapidly changing AEC industry. Within VolkerWessels Infrastructure we drive digital transformation to our 4 divisions with a central digital program. In this class we will show how we used a proven changemanagement methodology in a specific adoption approach, in order to implement and adopt BIM360/ACC as a new cloud platform. The adoption approach is based on ADKAR, a changemanagement methodology by Prosci. This enables us to pay attention to communication, sponsors, resistance, instructions, coaching and the return on investment of the change. The effect is digital transformation, improved operational excellence and more 'bang for buck' from IT investments, in Cloud technology like BIM360/ACC. This make change and adoption one of our core competencies. We adopted BIM360/ACC efficiently and successfully in our organization by increasing the aspects of ADKAR to the target audience.

In this presentation, we shall discover how one of the biggest structural engineering offices in Romania, Popp&Asociatii, leveraged Revit’s key functionalities to model reinforcement in Revit and how Graitec adds-on was used for the detailing part of the rebar cages. Thanks to its dedicated wizards for 3D cage generation, PowerPack for Revit will be introduced to explain how to speed-up rebar modeling for usual standard structural elements. Rebar schedules could be created thanks to highly configurable templates and completed with automatic schemas.
