Huge new potential is emerging with MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) design automation. No longer is the design constrained to a Revit model; with automation as a service it can be an evolving, living, and breathing design. Key to this advancement are the linked data APIs that expose object level access, and the event-driven services that hook into them. Linked data is a multilayered issue, from internal design development to coordination with other organizations involved in a project. Through case studies of delivering design automation, we’ll look at the challenges and advantages of adopting these emerging new technologies, and how much of the conventional ways of working we can change to take better advantage of automation in MEP design. This class will present a further perspective on using graph data and other technologies as part of design automation. We’ll be taking a detailed look at automations involving Revit software, Building Graph (GraphQL, Neo4j, Kafka), Hypar, Node-RED, Dynamo, Forge, Rhino, and Grasshopper.
