Autodesk CFD Simulation of an Axial Flow Fan by Using Rotating Region Method

CFD simulations enables a deep insight about fluid flow behaviour under the guidance of simulation setup. Apart from basic static-region CFD cases such as air flow in a duct or two-phase flow of a heat exchanger, we need an additional approach to define their rotating parts (blades) while simulating rotating devices such as centrifugal fans, axial flow fans, pumps, turbo chargers etc., especially when we're optimizing the blade geometry.In this hands-on lab, we'll set a CFD simulation of an axial flow fan by using Autodesk CFD Rotating Region Method.Please see my past webinar video in Turkish:

Engineered Approach to Life Safety in a Shopping Mall Using Autodesk CFD

This class will cover the use of Autodesk CFD software as a design analysis tool to provide an effective, engineered smoke-control strategy for a shopping mall of large and complex geometry. We'll examine how fire dynamics were modeled and how important aspects such as smoke propagation and temperature distribution were investigated. The participants will learn about smoke movement in far greater detail than is possible through traditional design tools, such as zone models and algebraic equations, and we'll cover the impact of irregular shapes and unusual air movements that could not be addressed otherwise. We'll demonstrate how we can design the smoke exhaust systems to maintain a prescribed smoke-layer height, tenable temperature, and smoke visibility; and how we can optimize the volume of smoke to be exhausted to meet life-safety goals. Based on the Autodesk CFD results, we'll show how we can draw important conclusions and introduce valuable recommendations to minimize smoke hazards.

Large, complex, and in the cloud? No problem! Corgan, Gensler, Turner Construction, and PCL—all major players in the design and construction industry working together to simultaneously access data while maintaining firm individuality and capitalizing on connections to their corporate infrastructure. This proposal will discuss our use of A360 cloud-based collaboration service and A360 Collaboration for Revit cloud service on the Los Angeles International Airport Midfield Satellite Concourse, with a focus on staff management, model management, and consultant management. We will cover why we chose A360 and A360 Collaboration for Revit, how we set up A360 and A360 Collaboration for Revit, how we structured the model in the cloud, how to execute a large complex project in the cloud, and what the benefits are of multiple-office collaboration. Attendees will come out of this presentation with a clear understanding of how to successfully set up and execute A360 cloud-based collaboration service and A360 Collaboration for Revit cloud service on large complex projects. Advancements in Workflows When Using Autodesk CFD for Aerodynamics Simulation

Autodesk CFD software has gone through dramatic advancements that cover every aspect of the typical workflow necessary to perform an aerodynamics analysis. We will examine new workflows available to capitalize on your CAD data using SimStudio Tools for CAD cleanup or surface wrapping to nearly eliminate any CAD preparation. We will then do a deep dive into the new turbulence models available and the best practices and which ones to use for aerodynamics simulations. We will touch on mesh adaption best practices for aerodynamics to reduce the typical meshing guesswork and increase solving efficiency for complex aerodynamics models. The demonstration will conclude with methods to accurately capture the wall force results to measure lift and drag on bodies using efficient techniques. This class is designed to present the latest and proven workflows to perform aerodynamics simulations to eliminate out-of-date inefficient and less-accurate workflows used in the past.

Scan to BIM to Field: Increased Productivity with Point Clouds in the Cloud

Why model as-built conditions when you can work directly with a high-resolution point cloud? In this very hands-on class we will stake out the foundations for a new addition to our Autodesk University (AU) classroom using a remarkably easy, cloud-enabled workflow. First, participants will import a point cloud of our AU classroom into Navisworks Manage software. We will then use Point Layout software to place points on a number of modeled objects that we intend to stake out as part of a small classroom renovation. The model will be shared with the field using BIM 360 Glue cloud service. Finally, we will connect the BIM 360 Layout iPad application to a robotic total station to enable field users to stake out and verify the exact position of the points. All of this will happen using a contextual model of our surroundings.

Electronics Cooling Simulation Roundtable

We invite customers who have a need to simulate thermal management of electronics to attend this roundtable. We plan on discussing and discovering common electrical computer-aided design (ECAD) and mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) workflows, going from ideation, conceptual layout, and final design. Thermal management fits in this design process throughout and we will present some mockups on how we see the next generation of simulation fitting into the design process. We hope to gain insight from the roundtable regarding how participants currently manage the ECAD data and use it along with MCAD data to perform thermal simulation, where their struggles are, and what could be done to make everything easier. This session features CFD, Forge, and Fusion 360.

The #EmpireBIMcrew Strikes Back

The Millennium Falcon really is a heap of junk. Well, it was when Han bought it from Lando; it took a lot of work to refurbish it so that it could do the Kessel run so quickly. Using point clouds, Point Layout software, BIM 360 Field software, and BIM 360 Glue software, Han and Chewie managed to get the restoration turned around in less time than anyone had turned around a rust-bucket spaceship beforeand to a higher quality with all the documentation and testing recorded for reference whenever the hyperdrive didn't kick in. This class will echo the workflows in real life from renovation to moving and from the end of construction to handover into facilities management. This will be a tongue-in-cheek class with much of the humor of the 2012 Autodesk University class, Building the Death Star the Autodesk Way.
