El Seif Engineering Contracting Company is a leading construction company in the Middle East. When they started their foundation drilling at their project site, they faced complicated topography that made it hard to calculate the cut and fill needed and the costs and time required to finish it. Using a manual process or any traditional way to calculate takes them a long time to deliver accurate results which delays their project delivery time.

Project goals

El Seif had three key project goals in mind: 1) Eliminate manual calculations. 2) Build an accurate model for the land and building to visualize the whole project so they can accurately see the areas where there is an intersection or a gap between the foundation and the land. 3) Calculate accurate cut and fill required and time required.

Solution

We (Zoofitech) understood the customer pain points and offered the Autodesk AEC Collection as a solution where they could have multiple solutions like Revit, Civil 3D and Dynamo to meet project goals: 1) Survey and create surfaces in Civil 3D. 2) Import surfaces into Revit. 3) Model the foundation in Revit. 4) Use Dynamo to help check intersections between foundation and land, create solid mass representing extra cut required, calculate the volume needed to be removed and calculate fill.

Business outcome

El Seif were able to finish complicated tasks in less time with accurate results saving their budget. They successfully adopted BIM technology in all of their projects. In doing so, the solution was so successful for them throughout the complete project lifetime from the conceptual stage to the delivery stage. We (Zoofitech) supported them switching all existing AutoCAD into the AEC Collection by providing training for product usage and activation so they can get the most out of their software.
