Cutting Edge – Enabling Remote Users and Flame Licensing Consolidation

Cutting Edge – Enabling Remote Users and Flame Licensing Consolidation

Customer challenge

For over 27 years Cutting Edge has been a leading provider of sound and picture post-production for the advertising, features & television industries, both in Australia and internationally. With state-of-the-art, custom-built facilities in Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Sydney, Cutting Edge deliver the full suite of post services via numerous Online & Offline, Grading & Sound Suites in addition to a 7.1 Dolby Digital Enabled Cinema. Maintaining a number of dedicated Autodesk Flame Suites across regions, Cutting Edge appreciate there are administrative and cost efficiencies in having Digistor manage their Autodesk entitlements found in differing departments within the organisation.

Project goals

There are few goals that Cutting Edge would like to accomplish such as simplify enablement for remote users to access corporate licensing that can allow cost reductions via license optimization. In addition to that, able to improve communication of Autodesk Flame licensing changes. Able to have a succinct explanation of impact of license model amendments. Cutting Edge are dedicated for Administrator for Autodesk related transactions. Lastly, maintaining a single organizational view of all Autodesk assets.

Solution

During consultation it was determined that Cutting Edge could optimize their license entitlements via the Maintenance to Subscription Trade-in offer for their Autodesk Flame entitlements and this enabled immediate cost reductions as Subscription option became more economical versus perpetual Maintenance. This also provided the benefit of accurate budgeting for future renewal costs based on forecast renewal costs to 2028 published from Autodesk. Additionally Remote users no longer need to access Cutting Edge servers for licensing as the change to the Named User model enables users to access their assigned software from any device.

Business outcome

Cutting Edge now have aligned Autodesk Flame & Autodesk Flame Assist Subscription contracts with reduction in on-going costs due to licensing efficiencies suggested by Digistor. Additionally, Cutting Edge have reduced administration overhead by moving to the Named-User model, negating the requirement to host on-premise licensing.

Conclusion

Cutting Edge have achieved significant cost savings over several years by the early adoption of the Maintenance to Subscription offer recommended by Digistor for their Autodesk Flame licenses. This has also ensured that correct licenses remain available to users across the organization utilizing effective license optimization.
