Node.js is almost ten years old. It's no longer a new and uncertain open source project, but a solid choice for modern software development. Node.js is useful for frontend build steps, backend API layers, interfacing with databases, desktop software, and even machine learning projects. It excels in some areas and is still lacking in others. 
This talk will cover how to get started with Node.js, common development process, and standard tools to get acquainted with as a developer.
An updated overview will continue with the pros and cons of choosing Node.js as a technology.  We will talk about the maturity level of different types of Node.js projects. The current features it supports and how it is similar or different to other technologies with demos. We will cover what the standard frameworks choices, and what Autodesk have ultimately chosen for our projects.
We then will take a deep dive into the projects that are currently using Node.js at Autodesk. We will look at the design patterns, project structures and engineering choices Autodesk made over the years of developing with Node.js.
We'd like to share the rise and pitfalls we have ran into with different tech choices to you make a better decision on whether or not to use Node.js, and if you do, have a better understanding at where Node.js can be the most useful.
