AU Speaker Hopefuls Submit a Record Number of Class Proposals

MandalayThe AU 2012 in Las Vegas Call for Proposals (CFP) closed May 22. Potential AU speakers submitted 2008 proposals prior to the deadline. Last year, we received about 1900 submissions for the Las Vegas conference, making 2012 a record-breaking year.

Some people sent us one proposal; some people sent us a lot. The proposals came from 1072 individuals. Of those, 838 people sent one or two. Three of our most prolific proposers submitted more than 10 potential classes, labs, panels, or roundtables. We also noted that many of our speakers like to cut it close. Of the 2008 submissions, 1147 arrived within the final 48 hours!

In keeping with AU's international flair, about 25% of the proposals came from outside the United States. We received submissions from 42 countries. Top countries included Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Brazil, France, and New Zealand.

So, how good are your chances? AU Las Vegas will feature 750 classes for 2012. Whether your class is selected depends on how many proposals AU received for each track and whether it meets track objectives. Now that the CFP is closed, the track managers and the AU team start the process of reviewing the submissions and forming them into a well-rounded curriculum for AU 2012. You can expect to hear whether your class was chosen by the end of June.

We want to offer a big thank you to everyone who submitted a proposal. We know it takes time and effort to develop an idea, and we appreciate your efforts in making AU an exceptional learning conference.

AU will open the CFP for AU Virtual near the end of June. If you didn't get time to submit a proposal for AU 2012 in Las Vegas, or if you have more great ideas, consider submitting them for AU Virtual.

If you didn't get a chance to submit this year, but want to know when the CFP for AU 2013 opens, sign up to be notified.
