Lightstorm Entertainment’s Jon Landau to Discuss James’s Cameron New Film “Avatar” at AU

avatar-new-poster_small If you love Hollywood films, we have a very special treat for AU attendees this year. As many of you know, Autodesk plays a significant role in supporting our entertainment customers who create the stunning visual effects in the movies and games we all enjoy. We have a very special presentation this year: Academy® Award-winning producer Jon Landau from Lightstorm Entertainment will join us.

Jon partnered with James Cameron to produce Titanic, one of the most successful films of all time. The Academy-award winning film still holds the box office record of $1.8 billion and broke new ground in using visual effects as a storytelling device. Jon and Mr. Cameron have just wrapped production on their latest project, Avatar (see the movie trailer). Shot entirely in 3D, the highly-anticipated picture opens December 18.

In making Avatar, the Lightstorm team made the impractical possible. They created an entire virtual world and brought it on stage to shoot their movie using a new motion picture production process called virtual cinematography. What is virtual cinematography? Join us and find out.

Jon will give a short presentation in Carl’s CEO address in the morning on Tuesday, December 1. Later in the afternoon, Jon will join SVP’s Amar Hanspal and Marc Petit in the AutoCAD and M&E Keynote where he will present 15 minutes of James Cameron’s highly anticipated film Avatar in Dolby 3D, ahead of the movie’s release!

And if you’d like to learn more, we invite you to a session on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in South Seas I on Level 3 of the South Convention Center. Lightstorm’s Nolan Murtha will give a special presentation on how the techniques pioneered during the making of Avatar can apply to the future of architectural visualization.
