AutoCAD uses grips showed with a selected object not only to provide visual hints of the object—such as start/end/center points, or mid/tangent points or vertices—but also, more importantly, to provide shortcuts to various operations against the object, such as stretch, move, rotation, and scale. Other AutoCAD-based applications (Civil 3D software, AutoCAD Architecture software, AutoCAD MEP software, and so on) use custom grips with architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) entities extensively. Fortunately, with .NET API, we can add custom grips to an AutoCAD object for our own specialized operation against the selected object. This session will show you a few practical examples of using custom grips.

This technical instruction will demonstrate how to eliminate tedious manual duct takeoffs by developing a Revit add-in that automatically extracts duct information and calculates external static pressure. MEP engineers currently waste hours manually measuring ducts and entering data into spreadsheets for ESP calculations. The session will look at using the Revit API to capture duct parameters directly from the model, apply the same calculation logic as traditional spreadsheets, and integrate an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot to handle multiple Automation, Integration, & Customization tasks. Traditionally, firms have developed and deployed Revit Add-ins using C# to implement Automation, Integration, & Customizations and custom capabilities in Revit. Autodesk now offers the  Automation, Integration, & Customization API, part of the Autodesk Platform Service (APS), which provides access to the Automation, Integration, & Customization capabilities of Autodesk’s core products, including the Revit API. This session will assist developers in transitioning from the Revit API to the Automation, Integration, & Customization API. The Automation, Integration, & Customization API introduces a new workflow that allows developers to access the full Revit DB API without needing a Revit desktop installation. This enables seamless creation, extraction, and modification of Revit data. This workflow facilitates the creation of custom Revit families, data extraction, and more, without the need to open Revit models. We outline from start to finish how to convert a Revit Add-in to Design Automation, Integration, & Customization. This includes using Postman, managing References, Access Tokens, AppBundles, publishing, and running WorkItems.

This instructional demonstration is an introduction for AutoCAD.NET API software developers to learn how to extend the managed ObjectARX libraries to use hidden functionality. Although the standard AutoCAD .NET managed libraries provide extensive support, there is some functionality that is not wrapped into the managed libraries. In this instructional demonstration we will discuss ways to find that hidden functionality in AutoCAD software files and ObjectARX libraries. The instructional demonstration will then show how to make that functionality available to managed .NET applications. The instructional demonstration will provide sample code that you can modify and use in your applications.

This class will demonstrate how to explore the Dynamo API through Visual Studio and C#. Learn how to navigate the core libraries, understanding the difference between methods and properties within classes, and how to build simple commands. The Model Derivative API is not just meant for translating files to a viewing file format (the 'SVF' file ) and loading the model for viewing. In this class, we will provide you with deeper understanding of the Model Derivative API, it's feature set and capabilities. We will cover the range of file formats that are available for translation; how to extract metadata from a model; and how geometry can be extracted from model data for developing a variety of custom Forge applications. This will be followed by demonstrating a use case developed by one of our Forge customers. The class will show side by side samples of C# and Node.js.

This class will guide you through the new, exciting, cloud-based API for InfraWorks 360 software. We will cover how to get started and extract data from the model, how to generate report from the extracted information, and how to integrate with other providers—all by reading InfraWorks 360 software models using the REST API. Previous programming knowledge is required (Microsoft C# and Microsoft .NET), and knowledge of REST and the JavaScript API is recommended.

Autodesk Research has a number of C++ toolkits—e.g., for spatial analysis and multi-agent simulation—that would previously only have been used in desktop or server-side applications. With Emscripten and WebAssembly, we can now take these codebases and use them directly in browser-based applications, whether using Autodesk Viewer, Autodesk Tandem, or Autodesk Forma. This class focuses on some of the major new Revit 2014 API features. We look at API access to the project browser, dockable panels, copy and paste, command launching, the graphics pipeline, schedule formatting, and additions to the view API including demonstration and discussion of sample code. We also provide an overview of all the new Revit 2014 SDK samples. Note that prior .NET and Revit programming experience is required and that this class is not suitable for beginners.

In this class, we talk about and demonstrate Apple iOS libraries for 2D and 3D graphics programming. We demonstrate the use of native classes that the iOS SDK provides for graphics programming including the Quartz and UIKit SDK, which are useful for 2D graphics. We also introduce and demonstrate the use of OpenGL library implementation for iOS (called OpenGL ES) as well as GLKit library. Finally, we demonstrate a browser-based graphics application that uses the WebGL technology to display 2D and 3D graphics on a browser running in an Apple device. This class requires some familiarity with the Objective C language and the usage of XCode IDE.

AutoLISP is a very powerful programming language, but it doesn't offer the same knockout punch that VB.NET/C# does when combined with the AutoCAD .NET API. This class will explore the fundamentals of VB.NET and examine how you can use it to enhance existing AutoLISP routines. During this class, you will learn how to create basic commands for AutoCAD software, and discover functions that you can use with your existing AutoLISP routines. We will show examples of how to work with AutoCAD objects, get input from the user, create a basic form, and pass values between AutoLISP and .NET, plus other general programming concepts. For this class, you should know some AutoLISP, but it will be a beginner-level class for VB.NET and the AutoCAD .NET API.

In this class, we talk about and demonstrate Android libraries for 2D and 3D graphics programming. We demonstrate the use of native classes that the Android SDK provides for graphics programming including the Canvas, SurfaceView and Drawable (for 2D graphics) classes and their subclasses. For 3D programming, we introduce and demonstrate the use of OpenGL library implementation for Android (called OpenGL ES). Finally, we demonstrate a browser-based graphics application that uses the WebGL technology to display 2D and 3D graphics on a browser running in an Android device. This class requires some familiarity with the Android Java API and use of at least one IDE like Eclipse for Android programming.

This class will discuss using the 3ds Max software development kit (SDK) for automating common tasks within 3ds Max software. We will spend time discussing the .NET API and the Python environments, and we’ll compare them both. The Python SDK is using a newer API called MaxPlus, but it is not fully exposing the C++ API. While .NET API is exposing most of the C++ API, it can sometimes be more difficult to work with.
