Egis, as the Project Management Consultant for this endeavor, has harnessed the Autodesk environment to establish a seamless workflow from Revit to ACC to Tandem, facilitating the creation of a digital twin for the project. In 2018, Italian Railways launched a project to help its 630 stations meet sustainable management standards, leading to savings in water and energy use. FSTechnology, a division of Italian Railways, integrated Esri and Autodesk software to improve workflows for survey, design, and maintenance of its railway stations. Interoperability between Autodesk Construction Cloud, Civil 3D, and Esri ArcGIS enables a digital twin of the entire network. A GIS web app of the whole Italian network, including every site and station, was developed to monitor the status of the entire system. An interactive dashboard allows the management team to keep an eye on the KPI and take action whenever needed. FSTechnology is currently working to include Autodesk Tandem in the workflow to collect data from IoT devices, such as meters or sensors.

Digital twins can serve as a shadow representation of your assets—be it a building information modeling (BIM) corpus, CAD models of a facility, the equipment instruction manuals, or the interconnect between the systems. Adding sensors to these shadow representations allows for real-time tracking, evaluation, and prediction of facility and asset performance. In this presentation, we will introduce you to our digital twin platform called Autodesk Tandem and its new API. Following that, we will guide you through the process of developing your first digital twin, using the Autodesk Tandem APIs. By the end of the session, you'll know how to make your own digital twin and integrate the Autodesk Tandem API with your own systems and data. We'll wrap up with examples of more-advanced real-world use-cases that involve IoT sensors and time-series databases.

With new technologies emerging, we're always on the road to explore the digital factory. In this class, we'll share the best practices and approaches regarding the digital factory. First, drive increased efficiency of the factory design and optimization based on CAD workflow and FlexSim process simulation, which is essential for the digital factory. Next, ensure the objects can be tracked throughout the whole lifecycle; we built a "Factory Object TAG Rules" system for digital delivery. Finally, connected IoT devices help realize digital twins to streamline, automate, and predict tasks. And we explore AI to reinforce human intelligence so that it can achieve more.

Our team created a digital twin of retail store located in the shopping mall complex using Autodesk Tandem software–reducing missed inspection time by 90% By combining laser scanning, intelligent modeling, and asset element and IoT sensor data in Tandem extended through our mobile app, we empower plant management to monitor assets and make more-informed business decisions. Dawood integrated our native mobile application—built with Flutter, Supabase, and BuildShip—to record equipment inspections. Elements are tagged with QR codes, enabling rapid information access. This allows for data exchange between the mobile app and digital twin using the Tandem API—making it the single source of truth. This allows on-site engineers to access information on the go to complete daily inspections and send inspection data to the digital twin so that management can assess and respond to events in real time. Automated reminders reduce incidents.

The complexities around digital twins are usually enough to make most tech enthusiasts in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries think twice before embarking upon their use. From setting up IoT hubs and sensors to linking them with intelligent models and hosting them in client-facing experiences, the concept can be daunting. However, developments in gaming engines and their innate customization and ability to craft a story and experience mean that they are fast becoming great tools in the creation of digital twins. In this talk, we will look at the steps and stages involved in creating a digital-twin experience using the Unreal Engine game machine, in addition to showcasing industry case studies. We will break down the steps, from linking models from packages such as Revit software and 3ds Max software, to connecting to simple sensor data and visualizing the output. Here we explore the toolset and process required to help you embark on your own first digital twin.

In this session, we will present a powerful service for automatic generation of process simulation models from 3D plant models (for example, AutoCAD Plant 3D software). The simulation service is based on the Open Ontology-based Integration Platform “Simantics.” Information of a 3D model is extracted to generate and configure a dynamic simulation model and to calculate pressure-loss coefficients. The Forge model can be used for process and control design, control system testing, operator training, and process optimization and troubleshooting. The generated simulation-based virtual twin can be connected automatically to the Forge platform, capitalizing on the OPC UA standard, and simulation data can be visualized in Forge. We will also show how one can interface measurement data to the same system and do comparison between simulated and measured data, enabling fault diagnostic and troubleshooting services in Forge. We will demonstrate a case example using a small laboratory process.

Learn the workflow to place embankment around the coastal regions by using InfraWorks software to create a conceptual design. Use Flood Simulation to simulate, visualize, and analyze 2D flood simulations in the model and export from InfraWorks to Civil 3D software for the detailed design, with all the model information. Finally, use IoT to monitor the embankment after construction. This system will enable early detection of disturbing phenomena or events occurring in the flood embankments, thus enabling early response and prevention of crisis.

In this demo, we will walk through a simplified example of capturing real-time manufacturing data (cutting temperatures) from a hobby-class computer numerical control (CNC) router as it machines aluminum, visualizing that data on the visual model of the part being manufactured. Cutting tool and workpiece temperatures are direct indications of cutting efficiency and tool health. Mapping temperatures can help validate and suggest adjustments to feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to achieve the nominal chip load. While this is far from an industrial solution, this demo will show the power of IoT manufacturing within a simplified context to explore the utility and promise of cloud-based manufacturing solutions, built with Forge.
