At Autodesk University 2015, the combined use of the Vault API and the Forge Viewer API was first demonstrated. This class continues on that path and showcases the use of the Vault API and Forge Design Automation for Inventor software to programmatically modify Inventor files that reside within Vault software. We will see how to check out a file from Vault and modify the file using Design Automation for Inventor, eliminating the need for a local install of Inventor and its dependent licenses. Post modification, we’ll check the updated file back into Vault, creating a new version and maintaining file history.

This class will dive into how PCL uses Point Layout software and BIM 360 Layout software to enhance self-perform activities, as well as quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) efforts. We will explore why we chose BIM 360 Layout software, examine our workflows surrounding model-based QC, and profile a project. This session features BIM 360 Layout and BIM 360 Layout. AIA Approved

Automated Machine Guidance (AMG) can be a very misleading phrase. While a machine might know what specific elevation a surface needs to be, the operator is responsible for the finished grade. It is important that the operator have all of the information and tools necessary to ensure that the equipment is producing proper design conditions. With only grade specified in an AMG model, it is easy for any operator to not truly understand what he or she is grading and the importance of particular grades. This roundtable session focuses on an open dialog about experiences with AMG and what kinds of data should and should not be communicated with the operator. We start this session by showing what Sundt Construction's current practices are for using AMG to communicate with operations personnel and then we discuss how the standards evolved. Next, the discussion opens up for attendees to share their experiences and talk about how the perfect AMG model would look. The true value of an AMG model is how efficiently and quickly it can be executed in the field. If you have any involvement in that process this class is for you.

Have you heard of Dynamo, or do you think it’s a program only for Revit users? If you’re not a programmer and wouldn’t know where to start, we welcome you to Dynamo for Civil 3D software! Dynamo is already popular with architects and engineers using Revit software to design buildings, but if you’re an engineer who primarily works in the horizontal infrastructure space, Dynamo may be very new to you. In this class, we’ll focus on the Dynamo add-in for Civil 3D 2020. We’ll explore the import of AutoCAD and Civil 3D objects, the types of geometry you can create, and the functions you can apply. Discover the meaning and application behind the terms “nodes,” “connectors,” “code blocks,” and “lists.” Learn how to easily create a visual script to automate a repetitive task in your daily workflow, and how to apply that script to your design. Finally, join the Dynamo open-source community, where you can contribute to improving Dynamo for Civil 3D!

This class will cover the use of filters and view template to create trade-specific views in regards to the display of pipe and duct work in Revit software. Once the basic workflow is established, we'll see how we can automate this very tedious process with Dynamo software, and, finally, how we can use Microsoft Excel to create a dashboard to control the creation and view settings of trade-specific drawings. This is very useful in large projects with a very high number of mechanical systems and trades. We need a central way to handle this information. Also, as projects are ever changing, this method needs to enable changes as the project progresses.

In the early days of CAD, we made 2D creations of designs. Then came the era of creating models in 3D. Now, the next phase is connected BIM (Building Information Modeling). This era is about building applications and solutions that connect a community of people to a project or product, and to the new means of production. In this era, you can optimize a design not only for how it functions, but for how it is built and interconnects with other systems, as well as in the cloud. This class will showcase how users can utilize the power of the cloud using Revit software and BIM 360 software. It will also showcase how the users can customize the information present in BIM 360 using Forge and how they can make their own customized apps.

The ISO 19650 series contains the latest industry standards and best practices for the management and collaborative production of information using Building Information Modeling (BIM) applying a shared repository, known as a common data environment (CDE). Enabling technologies are needed to achieve the functional and nonfunctional requirements of a CDE and support the activities within the information management process. To ensure Autodesk customers have the technology they need, Autodesk engaged a leading authority on information management when using BIM and the author of ISO 19650-2 to assess BIM 360 Docs software. The outcomes of the review included product enhancements and a recommended configuration to support the adoption of the ISO 19650 series. This class will cover the outcomes of the review process and provide an introduction to the ISO 19650 family of standards with a road map of future developments.

This class will cover basic use of Dynamo software with Revit software for model information analysis when starting from scratch. The workflow that we'll use can help you understand in a practical way how to analyze your model information. Revit models hold a lot of information and a lot of ways to change it. The practice of modifying everything is also the weak point for construction, cost, and management. Fortunately, Dynamo can help us to review the information, check that everything is coherent with the construction needs, and have some filters that can assure model quality. We'll cover basic Dynamo topics, such as selection, extraction, and lists, and we'll link with Microsoft Excel documents, sort, group, extract and insert parameters, and visualize them on the model. And we'll review some Dynamo examples of scripts used for some projects.

Design, fabrication, and manufacturing for construction is advancing in the piping industry at a rapid pace. As such, workforce training for using the latest available technologies with the latest advances in design is essential. In this class, we’ll explore design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) workflows and methods and the application to United Association training for improving the DfMA and modular assembly fabrication and installation skills of installers of mechanical piping and plumbing systems. We’ll be exploring generative design, modular assembly techniques, and automated tools, including their integration with Revit software, BIM 360 software, Navisworks software, and STRATUS, to develop modular fabrication training processes and methods.

This class is an introduction to the Fusion 360 app's new API (application programming interface). We will provide an overview of the capabilities of the API and the tools available to write, edit, run, and debug your programs. We will also cover the material that will help you to learn and use the API, and we will demonstrate many sample programs to show the capabilities of the API.

AutoCAD software users tend to repeat the same task frequently. Something as simple as placing text may require that one sets a specific layer current, then sets a text style current, and then sets the height of the text. This example requires 3 steps before typing the verbiage. Other repetitive tasks can consume even more time. Creating a simple macro will automate processes such as this into one function. Macros can also assist in ensuring that drafting standards are being used. This session will demonstrate how to easily create macros to automate repetitive tasks, and how one can add them to a tool palette for easy access. This session features AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT.

Add intelligence to your drawings with attribute data. This session will show you the tools and techniques used to work effectively with block attributes. Learn how to define attributes using document properties and fields, redefine existing attribute data, and then take your documentation to the next level by extracting the attribute data to an external file or a table in the drawing.

ReCap Photo is a cloud- connected high performance photogrammetry desktop application that allows digitizing reality using digital cameras.

The application can automatically turn a series of overlapping 2D photos of an object or a scene into a very high resolution and photo realistic textured 3D mesh model.

And it has the capability to process aerial images captured via UAV/Drones to create detailed engineering/survey grade data like mesh models, point clouds and ortho images that are geo-located. It supports features like specifying ground control points and geo-referenced coordinate systems.

With the introduction of the Reality Capture API on Forge, anyone can access the same powerful technology to convert digital images to 3D/2.5D models for various industrial use cases, leveraging cloud computing.

In this class, one will learn how to use the Reality Capture Web API with code samples to add highly-scalable photogrammetry capability to their desktop, web or mobile applications.

Many services such as Facebook, GitHub, and Google have already deployed OAuth 2.0 servers. The OAuth 2.0 spec leaves many decisions up to the implementer. Instead of describing the possible decisions that need to be made to successfully implement OAuth 2.0, this lecture will explain most of the appropriate decisions to make for most implementations. This lecture is an attempt to explain OAuth 2.0 in a simplified format to help developers and service providers implement the protocol. Attendees will also discover how they can use other people's OAuth servers instead of implementing their own.

When using immersive systems such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) for design review, a key attribute of the system is a seamless interaction with at-scale, realistic digital models. VRED software is a well-accepted, manufacturing design-review application offering close-to-truth photorealism and a highly immersive extended reality (XR) interface. Using artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled speech control with VRED software can increase the level of immersion, allowing a user to have direct interaction with the digital model without the need for scene-occluding graphical user interfaces (GUIs)—and also allowing the user to naively interact with VRED, enabling more users to perform unassisted design reviews in XR. Project Mellon is NVIDIA's internal speech-enablement project that uses the innovative Riva automatic speech recognition (ASR) software with a prototype dialogue manager and 0-shot learning natural language processing (NLP) to achieve a developer-friendly integration of AI-enabled speech. In this session, we’ll show Mellon and VRED, and we’ll discuss how Mellon is used to easily update command lists without the need for extensive NLP training.

In this class we will talk about the client-side web technologies HTML5, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), and the JavaScript API (application programming interface), and we will look at how they are relevant to Autodesk, Inc., technologies such as the Autodesk 3D viewer technology. We will also examine examples that use these technologies together with Autodesk technologies, and we will discuss where you should start if you are new to these technologies. We’ll explain Upchain capabilities that can be integrated into a custom release process workflow in order to remove the manual work involved in checking that all of the required files or attributes have been submitted. We’ll also show you how the process can be modeled specifically for mechanical or electrical design, but also how it can support one big process containing both. And we’ll show you how the system will automate the request for information and perform required files or attribute checks by itself. We’ll also show how the workflow leaves an audit trail regarding processes and approvals.
