Ludwig Mies van der Rohe famously said, “God is in the details.” In sustainable architecture, the impact of thoughtful detailing is more critical than ever. While bold goals shape early design, it’s the resolution of assemblies, continuity of documentation, and firm standards that ultimately drive performance. This panel will bring together envelope experts and practice technologists from small, mid-sized, and large firms to discuss how workflows, standards, and tools are evolving to support sustainable outcomes. Panelists—including D.TO, architects, a BIM manager, and an Autodesk expert—will share real-world challenges, from inaccessible detail libraries to BIM limitations, and we’ll explore how technology is starting to close those gaps. We’ll examine how platforms like Revit software, emerging artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, and context-aware detailing tools are transforming envelope design—aligning performance, precision, and Sustainable Design through smarter practices and better delivery.

Sustainable Design is a pipe dream if you cannot accurately predict, model, and monitor your building’s content and energy usage. Without digital project delivery focused on the specific needs of the building end use—not the needs of national or international standards—we cannot even begin to accurately and predictably lower the energy used by and embodied within our built assets. By using products such as Autodesk Forma alongside traditional delivery tools such as Revit and Civil 3D software, the Buro Happold Information Management team are driving Sustainable Design without uttering the word. By breaking BIM down into its constituent parts, we’re able to work with our clients to create a project data standard that takes the guesswork out of designing, building, and operating a building—and feeds the future by ensuring that we have a stock of buildings that can tell us how good our decisions were and if they’re operating as we hoped they would.

The Terminal 2 Baggage Programme (T2BP) at Heathrow aims to replace the aging T2 baggage system linked to Terminal 1. The new solution will be implemented in five phases across 21 construction projects, grouped by physical and operational attributes. A major challenge was managing design risks through different organizations and suppliers that interface at key areas in a live operational environment. The manual Excel processes used to record design risks led to difficulties in maintaining a single source of truth, causing duplication and errors. The goal was to find a streamlined, digital solution to standardize processes and enable monitoring and reporting through dashboards. After researching data environments, Autodesk Forma was chosen for its suitability to manage design risk information, requiring customization through trial and feedback. The solution also provided integration with augmented reality (AR) for live inspections.

In a world of constantly evolving construction software where you have to manage multiple tech stacks on projects, imagine the relief of having a single source of truth for each project? Enter Autodesk Forma. This case study of an IPD health care project aims to showcase how we structured our virtual coordination into a 3-pronged approach. First, we used Autodesk Forma Locations to break a floor plan down into Rooms and TAKT zones. Second, we created Autodesk Forma Assets for each room to track. And, third, we tied .RCP and In-Wall Sheets for those rooms using the Autodesk Forma Sheets module. The value? Getting to look at the whole lifecycle of the room—from when the walls were in DD stage, through various stages of design and trade coordination, prefabrication, installation, and, finally, QC, punch-list, and wall-close. At every phase of the project, the team had all the information they need within one platform: Autodesk Forma. This enabled the end user to view the historical context of coordination in one place. A win for all stakeholders.

Have you ever taken a photo of something critical during a site visit only to forget where it was or find it lacking context when reviewing it later? The increasing accessibility of advanced reality capture devices—such as photogrammetry and SLAM LiDAR technology—offers an unprecedented opportunity for AECO professionals to accurately capture detailed and extensive site details. Integrating these technologies into your workflows can dramatically enhance documentation at various construction stages, improve coordination among stakeholders, and provide timely and transparent as-built information. This case study will demonstrate how to effectively use these advanced technologies (SLAM point clouds and 3D gaussian splatting) to enrich civil Infrastructure Management with Autodesk tools like Civil 3D, ReCap, InfraWorks, Revit, and Autodesk Forma.

This session will explore how Autodesk Forma is being used as a transformative tool on the 105 Victoria Street project—one of the first large-scale UK projects to fully embrace Autodesk Forma. The content will focus on real-world applications, such as tracking mega planks and steelwork from off-site production through to installation, monitoring cladding in 3D, and enhancing quality control with NCRs and visual data. We will also highlight how Skanska uses Autodesk Forma in combination with Power BI dashboards to provide project managers with real-time insights, driving accountability, improving efficiency, and enabling data-driven decision making.

Daiwa House has achieved early adoption of building information modeling (BIM) in the design phase, adopted Forma Data Management as its standard common data environment (CDE), obtained ISO 19650 certification, and is currently pursuing a CDP strategy. Toward further growth and innovation beyond BIM, we've launched the "Data-Centric Project" with Autodesk this year, focusing on a data strategy. We've defined a DDP (DfMA data platform), prepared a KoP (kit of parts) using DfMA methodology, and verified its effectiveness in real projects to address social issues such as construction waste and decrease of skilled workers. As data strategy has become essential, along with the verification of the effectiveness of the DfMA methodology in actual projects, we'll present the overall concept of the data-centered project, and discuss how DfMA and data strategy are related to each other and to the realization of the digital construction industry.

AutoCAD paves the way for collaboration across people, devices, and platforms that is designed to help decision-makers optimize their workflows. Learn about how you can further enhance and simplify this experience for your teams by leveraging a complete cloud-based document management and common data environment with Forma Data Management.

Brazil has undergone significant legislative changes in recent years and has the bold, yet necessary, goal to universalize water and sewage services by 2033. That challenge has driven building information modeling (BIM) implementation in sanitation companies, which encouraged the Brazilian company SANEAGO to use and customize Forma Data Management and the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection tools for its context. Similar to other sanitation concessionaires, SANEAGO currently deals with large project volume, developed by several different design companies, for the 226 municipalities it operates. This makes document management, standardization, collaboration, project analysis, and project design quite challenging. In this talk, we'll discuss the CAD-BIM transition, covering not only software usage, but also company diagnosis, policies, and project standards establishment, which involves changes in the design processes and in the organizational culture as a whole, in order to raise BIM maturity within the company and its entire ecosystem.
