Issue:

After plotting a drawing to PDF from AutoCAD that contains text with a certain font(s), when opening the PDF in Adobe Acrobat/Reader, the following message appears:

Adobe Reader
The font '<font_name>' contains bad /Widths.

Additionally, if a diameter symbol is used, the following message will appear:

Adobe Reader
Cannot find or create the font 'MyriadRegular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.

Causes:

MyriadRegular and Univers-Condensed have been known to cause this.

Solution:

Install the latest update for AutoCAD 2018 (see Where to get Product Updates, Add-ons, and Enhancements). The issue of bad widths has been corrected in AutoCAD 2018 products. The issue with the diameter symbol remains, though.

In AutoCAD products prior to version 2014, the PDF driver had an option to only capture some of the fonts when creating PDFs. That option avoids the issues stated above. For AutoCAD versions 2015-2017, using the 'Convert all text to geometry' option will avoid the bad widths issue, but not the problem with diameter symbols.

At this point, choosing a different font for the diameter symbols is recommended for all AutoCAD versions 2014 and newer.
