GAMMA: Space Exploration Lander

Overview

Scientists think the most likely places to find extraterrestrial life in our solar system are on the moons of Saturn and Jupiter—hundreds of millions of miles away from Earth. Creating an interplanetary lander that can travel extreme distances in the harsh conditions of space presents a massive challenge. Autodesk and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory teamed up to explore new approaches to design and manufacturing processes for space exploration, applying generative-design technology.

Collaboration with NASA

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Autodesk have engaged in a multi-year collaborative research project so that JPL can explore new approaches to design and manufacturing processes for space exploration, with the custom application of Autodesk’s generative design technology.

A concept lander, perhaps the most complicated structure ever created using generative design, was unveiled at Autodesk University. This study is ongoing.
