AI & computation

We apply modern machine learning to designing, creating, and interpreting the world, and we use advanced computing platforms, systems, and software to solve complex design problems. We are actively researching deep learning and reinforcement learning, knowledge representation and semantics, geometric shape analysis, and knowledge discovery.

Design & fabrication

We research ways to apply generative design, advanced computation, and novel design methods to problems ranging from reducing part-counts and weight in manufactured objects to optimizing the performance of buildings, neighborhoods, and cities. Our methods focus on real-world industry collaborations with forward-looking customers and other partners.

Human-computer interaction & visualization

Advancing human-computer interaction and ways to make software easier to learn, friendlier to use, and more efficient are study areas close to our hearts. We are actively exploring virtual and augmented reality, interaction design, computer supported collaborative work, information visualization, 3D user interfaces, and the future of learning.

Internet of Things & sensing

We look into how increasingly cheap and ubiquitous sensor data can aide in the semantic understanding of the world in ways that improve design and fabrication processes. Autodesk innovation seeks to accelerate and elevate the design process, empower exploration of new concepts, enable design based on performance feedback, and assist with the construction and assembly of buildings and products.

Robotics & automation

We prototype and craft a vision that includes robotics in architecture, construction, manufacturing, and entertainment. We are actively researching adaptive robotics and closed-loop control, applications for machine learning, distributed robotics, robotic digital twins, and novel robotics user interfaces.

Autodesk Research provides an open and encouraging environment for interns to participate in and contribute to research and publications from our groups and projects.
