{"id":87,"date":"2016-10-05T23:56:02","date_gmt":"2016-10-05T23:56:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eagleblog.wpengine.com\/?p=87"},"modified":"2023-09-28T11:16:21","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T18:16:21","slug":"what-you-didnt-know-about-eagle-command-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/what-you-didnt-know-about-eagle-command-line\/","title":{"rendered":"What you didn\u2019t know about EAGLE: Command Line"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In today\u2019s vast graphical user interface applications filled with icons and symbols, it\u2019s rare to find a&nbsp;program&nbsp;that includes a command line option.&nbsp; Many may consider this a legacy feature, but for those who&nbsp;dominate the application have a clear understanding of its benefits.&nbsp;&nbsp;EAGLE has always included the command line, sparing users from the need to memorize or hover over&nbsp;icons to find the necessary functions, and therefore speeding up the use of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you\u2019re working on a large schematic and you would like to highlight a component such as R1, just type \u2018Show R1\u2019. Also, if you are working on a dense&nbsp;design and&nbsp;are zoomed out, you can&nbsp;still point out the component by&nbsp;typing&nbsp;the command \u2018Show @ R1\u2019, and the part will be highlighted. In addition,&nbsp;EAGLE will draw a frame around it making it easy to find (refer to&nbsp;Figure 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/command-line-show-r1-sch.404x0-is.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-88\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure 1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another good example is to revert filled&nbsp;polygons to outline mode. In this scenario,&nbsp;you &nbsp;can&nbsp;use the \u2018Rip Up\u2019 command and click every single polygon to return it to its original format.&nbsp; But with command line,&nbsp;you can type \u2018Ripup @;\u2019 and press enter and BAM!! all polygons will return to their outline mode (refer to&nbsp;Figure 2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/command-line-ripup-command-line.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-89\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The command line can be used to execute ULP\u2019s or EAGLE&nbsp;script files which, exponentially expands the usability of EAGLE. A simple example,&nbsp;type the&nbsp;\u2018Run count\u2019 in the&nbsp;Board editor command line. This will give you a quick summary count of landings and points of transition that currently exist on the design (refer to&nbsp;Figure 3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/command-line-blog-count.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-90\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure 3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think that the command line&nbsp;is a thing of the 1980\u2019s, give it a shot in EAGLE,&nbsp;you might be surprised!&nbsp;It\u2019s also good to note that the command line is always active and maintains a history of all of the previously entered commands, which you can cycle through using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CadSoft Support Team<br><a href=\"mailto:support@cadsoftusa.com\">support@cadsoftusa.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EAGLE has always included the command line that has allowed users to speed up the use of the program.
