Autodesk has been clear about its broader MCP strategy: create trusted, secure ways for AI systems to interact with real design-and-make workflows. Autodesk MCP brings that vision into Fusion. It gives AI a way to do more than talk about design. It creates a path for AI to interact with the design environment itself.

We see this as an important step forward for Fusion and, more broadly, as an early move in bringing official MCP support into major CAD workflows. More importantly, it reflects a belief we have held for a long time: powerful platforms should be open, extensible, and ready to meet customers where they work. Fusion has always been more than a design tool. With Fusion MCP, it becomes even more adaptable to the way modern teams want to create.

If you’re a Fusion user, what does this mean for you?

Most Fusion users should never have to think about protocols, servers, or implementation details. What matters is what becomes possible.

Fusion MCP is about helping AI do real work in your design process. Instead of stopping at suggestions or answers, AI can become part of the action: helping with repetitive tasks, multi-step changes, and workflows that would otherwise take time and manual effort.

It also opens the door to a more natural way of creating. If you are already fluent in Fusion, this can help you move faster and shape workflows around the way you already work. If you have never written code, or even never used CAD before, Fusion MCP points to something equally exciting: a future where you can describe what is in your head and get to a digital starting point faster, then refine it into something real and manufacturable.

That is the opportunity here. Not more complexity. More access. More capability. More ways to go from idea to editable design.

If you’re an API person, what does this mean for you?

Fusion already has a strong foundation for customization through its API, scripting, and automation ecosystem, and Autodesk continues to support developers through the Autodesk Developer Network. Fusion MCP builds on that foundation rather than replacing it. It gives developers a new interface for creating AI-driven workflows on top of the capabilities that already make Fusion extensible today.

That matters because the next wave of customization will not look exactly like the last one. It will not be limited to traditional add-ins, fixed UIs, or one-off scripts. It will include prompt-driven workflows, agentic experiences, and business-specific tools that help customers solve design problems in ways that are unique to their process.

For developers, partners, and power users, Fusion MCP is an invitation to build. It is a way to extend Fusion beyond the workflows we can package out of the box and into the workflows customers actually need. And for the Autodesk Developer Network community, it is another signal that Autodesk is investing in an ecosystem where developers can keep creating differentiated value on top of Fusion.

Why this matters

The real story is not the acronym. The real story is empowerment.

Fusion MCP helps make Fusion more open to imagination, more connected to the AI tools people are already adopting, and more extensible for the businesses and builders who want to push further. It is for the power user who wants to tailor workflows. It is for the developer who wants to build something new. And it is for the person with an idea who wants a simpler path from concept to creation.

This post is focused on Fusion MCP. We will share more on any additional MCP offerings in future releases.

Discover how Fusion MCP connects AI tools to Autodesk Fusion, opening new ways to automate, customize, and extend design workflows.
