Long before co-founding his own product design company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.makexnow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">makeXno<\/a>w or working with the startup <a href=\"https:\/\/lockassure.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LockAssure<\/a>, Simone knew his path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven when I was a kid, I always knew deep down that I wanted to be an inventor,\u201d Simone says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simone studied, experimented, and learned by doing, spending countless hours prototyping and teaching himself how products get made. That hands-on approach accelerated during college when he gained access to a makerspace packed with tools most students never touched. With 3D printers, fabrication equipment, and near-constant access, Simone wasn\u2019t just learning design theory. He was learning how design decisions play out in physical form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those experiences shaped his early product work, including a consumer product he took through dozens of prototypes and eventually onto Shark Tank. The project went beyond a successful example of landing an investment. It became something more valuable: a crash course in manufacturability, iteration, and the limits of fixing decisions late in the product development process.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"building-makexnow-around-real-outcomes\"><strong>Building makeXnow around real outcomes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>After years spent refining a single product, Simone made a deliberate shift. He wanted a business that could generate revenue immediately without compromising his core identity as an inventor. That idea became makeXnow, a product development studio built around a simple principle to help clients ship successful products, not just design them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to help our clients ship viable products that make an impact,\u201d Simone says. \u201cWe only work with products that we believe will be successful. Our favorite clients are the ones who care more about the problem they\u2019re solving than the idea they walked in with. I always say \u2018marry the problem, not the solution.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For makeXnow, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Autodesk Fusion<\/a> is key to their design process. The consequences are expensive and sometimes dangerous. Gates are left unlocked. Access codes can be changed without notice. Supervisors don\u2019t know whether sites are secure at night, and crews show up unable to enter job sites. In some cases, workers resort to cutting locks just to keep projects moving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen workers arrive in the morning, there could be dozens of people standing outside the gate and they can\u2019t get in,\u201d Simone says. \u201cOn a large enough site, that can translate to tens of thousands of dollars burned per hour with no progress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial concept, a heavy metal box, looked nothing like the final product and that was the point. With a focus on outcomes rather than attachment to a form factor, the design was free to evolve, and that made all the difference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey cared more about the problem they were trying to solve than the idea itself,\u201d Simone says.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"iterating-to-a-final-product\"><strong>Iterating to a final product<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>From the first sketch onward, LockAssure went through extensive iteration. Early concepts were tested, rejected, reshaped, and tested again. The product changed dramatically as they reviewed assumptions, incorporated feedback from people working on real job sites, and refined the mechanics of the lock itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe product they came to us with and what we ended up making is completely different,\u201d Simone says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"798\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/LockAssure-Screenshot-3-1024x798.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-83839\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/LockAssure-Screenshot-3-1024x798.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/LockAssure-Screenshot-3-300x234.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/LockAssure-Screenshot-3-768x599.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/LockAssure-Screenshot-3.jpg 1207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the process, Fusion served as the backbone for design, iteration, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/rapid-prototyping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prototyping<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/campaigns\/fusion-360\/cloud-collaboration-made-easy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">collaboration<\/a>. \u201cFusion\u2019s push\/pull capabilities in combination with the various joint features helped us iterate very quickly on prototypes for HexLock 1,\u201d Shvydkyi says. \u201cIt\u2019s an environment where we can evaluate ideas quickly and make changes without friction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A big moment was when we moved from a bike lock shape to our hexagon design, giving our lock its signature look,\u201d Simone adds. \u201cWe also realized we could reduce cost and improve usability by implementing a simple pin mechanism rather than having the metal bar fully inserted into both halves of the lock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the concept matured, those same models flowed downstream to manufacturing partners, reducing friction between design intent and real-world production. By the time LockAssure reached manufacturing readiness, it was no longer an incremental improvement on a padlock. Any breach or lapse in security is completely traceable, and there is always a single point of accountability. Today, LockAssure is moving through production with purchase orders already in place, a milestone that validates both the product and the process behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The inability to \u2018fake\u2019 our lock is one thing that really sets us apart from the competition,\u201d Simone says. \u201cWith traditional smart locks, you could easily imitate a locked gate by connecting both parts and setting it aside.
