Welcome to the first post in our new Fusion Community Spotlight<\/em> series\u2014where we celebrate the makers, builders, and dreamers using Autodesk Fusion to bring their ideas to life. These are the real stories of people pushing creative and technical boundaries with Fusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First up, Tim George. If you\u2019ve spent any time in the Fusion Facebook User Group<\/a>, chances are you\u2019ve seen his work and helpful pieces of advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tim’s creative journey began in New Orleans, sketching cars from an early age. By 17, he had designed and built a guitar purchased by Courtney Love\u2014a model later mass produced by Fender. After moving to Denver, Tim\u2019s self-driven passion led him to master 3Ds Max and later Fusion, where he\u2019s created hundreds of designs, especially for cars\u2014a true passion. Tim also built and raced a car in the vintage Baja 1000, authored a book on a groundbreaking 1902 race car with a foreword by Jay Leno, and balances his career between green energy design engineering and high-end classic car restoration in Denver. An avid musician and photographer for over three decades, Tim\u2019s life is fueled by creativity and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We chatted with Tim about his experience with Fusion, specifically around rendering and he shared some candid feedback and tips you should know, so let’s jump right in.<\/p>\n\n\n

No hype: Just honest rendering wisdom<\/h2>\n\n\n

No fluff here\u2014Fusion\u2019s built-in renderer<\/a> isn\u2019t the flashiest. But for Tim, that\u2019s not the point<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIs Fusion\u2019s renderer world class? Nope. Is it easy? Yep. Will it get you most of the way there with visualization? Yep, as long as it\u2019s not outdoor lighting.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What it is, is fast. And sometimes that\u2019s exactly what you need when you\u2019re racing through iterations, making real parts, and turning concepts into physical products. For Tim, this speed unlocks momentum. And momentum means progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe first day I tried to render something I got decent results fast\u2026 Within a month I was designing and rendering my ideas and thinking, \u2018Hmmm, I could make this stuff.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tim’s 4 power rendering moves in Fusion<\/h2>\n\n\n

  1. Always fillet corners\u2014no exceptions.<\/strong>\n
      \n
    • Sharp edges kill realism. A tiny fillet goes a long way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Use the \u2018skateboard halfpipe\u2019 background trick.<\/strong>\n
        \n
      • Soft gradients between floor and wall make your models pop, minus harsh lines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Get strategic with blur.<\/strong>\n
          \n
        • It\u2019s a pro move for polished product renders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Ditch native lights\u2014build your own emissive lightboxes.<\/strong>\n
            \n
          • The more control, the better your story. Custom lighting sets great renders apart.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            These aren\u2019t software updates\u2014they\u2019re user upgrades. And they come from someone who gets what it means to balance creativity with getting stuff done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
