Net names on tracks, first foray into one-click CAM, export to STEP!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings Earthlings!<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re excited to announce the release of the first <a href=\"https:\/\/cadsoft.io\/resources\/beta-version\/\">EAGLE beta (7.6.2)<\/a> since Autodesk\u2019s acquisition of Cadsoft!\u00a0 As promised, we are moving fast on the Cadsoft team to try and add value and this beta has given us an opportunity to add a few things we view as essentials (and it\u2019s been super exciting just starting to get our hands dirty!). \u00a0A number of items are &#8220;in development&#8221; but we&#8217;re looking for feedback, so it was better to push these early!<\/p>\n<h3>Net Names on Tracks<\/h3>\n<p>Firstly, we\u2019ve gone ahead and added something we hope every EAGLE user will be excited about &#8212; <strong>net name overlays in PCB tracks<\/strong>. Now rather that struggling to find which track is connected to which net, this new capability displays the names of all nets along the length of the associated route to make identifying nets MUCH easier in EAGLE PCB.\u00a0 Please check it out and let us know what you think!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-58 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/names_in_tracks_in_pcb.690x0-is.png\" width=\"690\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enable <strong>signal\u00a0names on nets <\/strong>under the Misc button, found under Options &gt; Set from the EAGLE menu.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-59 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/signalnamesonnets.png\" width=\"709\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next up, you\u2019ll notice a few buttons along the top of the window showing the Autodesk logo &#8212; one labeled MAKE and the other MCAD.\u00a0 Now bear with us because these are still largely a proof of concept but we were eager to get them out there and start getting feedback from you!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-61 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/eagle_make_mcad_toolbar.png\" width=\"740\" height=\"145\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>One Click CAM Processor<\/h3>\n<p>The MAKE button is a one-stop shop for producing the outputs necessary for fabrication, assembly, test, etc.\u00a0 Hitting the button, you\u2019ll be presented with a dialog which gives you the option to side-step the CAM generator and instead, produce all of your Gerber, Drill, BOM, Netlist (IPC-D-356), Pick &amp; Place, etc., files in one go.<\/p>\n<p>The MAKE button will also snapshot your design and store it under your user profile on Autodesk\u2019s Circuits.io site.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-62 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/circuitsio_make_export.812x0-is.png\" width=\"812\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here we&#8217;re\u00a0providing\u00a0a <strong>single-click solution to \u201cmake\u201d a design<\/strong> (hence the name) while also providing\u00a0a place to socialize your design\u00a0content with access to your schematics, PCBs, output files, PDFs, the layer stackup, BOMs, etc.<\/p>\n<p>This is a first pass and though it requires a login to store your data (and knowing some folks may be uncomfortable with that), we hope you get enough value from these new features that you\u2019ll create an account.\u00a0 We have ensured that the information is always private, can be deleted any time,\u00a0and is stored securely on the Autodesk servers.<\/p>\n<p>Please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Q51OMQ8UzOk\">checkout the video here<\/a> for more details!<\/p>\n<h3>Export to STEP<\/h3>\n<p>Next up is the <strong>MCAD button<\/strong> and this will push your design up to ECAD.io &#8211;\u00a0a site we\u2019ve been riffing on for some time now &#8211; where you can generate a STEP file from your PCB.\u00a0 Now this too is under-development, however thru the MCAD button, you can load your design into ECAD.io and convert from that plain-old PCB to glorious 3D,\u00a0free of charge!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-63 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/eagle_make_mcad_toolbar_edit.png\" width=\"740\" height=\"145\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After you&#8217;ve mapped your components, go ahead and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/try-buy\">grab a copy of Autodesk\u2019s Fusion 360\u00a0to design that enclosure<\/a><strong>!<\/strong> \u00a0 ($300 for commercial users, free to makers and students)<\/p>\n<p>When you land on ECAD.io you will be required to login.\u00a0 This enables us to manage component model transformations against your profile (MCAD can be fidgety about which sketch plane you started drawing on, i.e.\u00a0component origins in mechanical are rarely the same as they are in the ECAD environment). \u00a0 This new version of ECAD.io\u00a0allows you upload your personal\u00a0models as well. \u00a0Add these to your\u00a0profile and align them to your PCB footprints when the design loads. \u00a0The orientation\u00a0will be saved for use in any future designs (so you only have to complete this process once per part).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-64 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/ecadio.830x0-is.png\" width=\"830\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Again, this is an early implementation of what we are thinking about and hoping to get into the software in time for 7.7&#8230;thus we are looking for feedback!\u00a0 We are committed to all of these features but we need some user input to help guide our thinking.\u00a0 <strong>Please share your thoughts, questions, concerns, in the comments below or on twitter, via the support channels or anywhere else across the web!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Q51OMQ8UzOk\">video here<\/a> for\u00a0more details and look for another post \/ video describing how to get started with ECAD.io here shortly!<\/p>\n<p>Best regards,<\/p>\n<p>Matt Berggren<\/p>\n<p>Autodesk<\/p>\n<p>@technolomaniac \/ FB &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>hackaday.io\/matt<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings Earthlings!
