However, things have really started taking off recently with the introduction of some advanced 3D printing functionality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here we are going to take a look at some of the cool <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/?p=61373&amp;preview=1&amp;_ppp=5df0fc7655\">Fused Filament Fabrication <\/a>(FFF) features in Fusion. <\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-is-fused-filament-fabrication-fff\">What is Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF)?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/fusion-360-fff-printing\/\">Fused Filament Fabrication<\/a>&nbsp;(FFF), also known as&nbsp;Fused Deposition Modeling&nbsp;(FDM), is a 3D printing&nbsp;process that uses a continuous filament of a thermoplastic&nbsp;material. It allows you to 3D print a complete part in a few minutes or a few hours, shortening your lead times and speeding up the prototyping process. In this article, we will refer to it as FFF, which is consistent with Fusion.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fused-filament-fabrication-fff-workflows-in-fusion\">Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) workflows in Fusion<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/help.autodesk.com\/view\/fusion360\/ENU\/?guid=GUID-B7A1FB40-2CCF-4817-9690-7AC72F1A5362\">FFF workflow in Fusion<\/a> differs somewhat from the common workflow of most slicers. This is because Fusion is not just a slicer, but a complete product development solution. We also have functionality that other slicers do not have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FFF that we follow in Fusion is the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select your printer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select your print settings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit your print settings &amp; assign your per-body settings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add your support structures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generate your toolpath (the equivalent of slicing)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simulate your toolpath<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generate your print file<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The video below walks you through each of these workflow stages:<\/p>\n\n\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Ultimate Guide to Fusion 360 FFF 3D Printing | Autodesk Fusion 360\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gi9qvDDeziQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen style=\"aspect-ratio:500 \/ 281;width:100%;height:auto;\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"support-structures\">Support structures<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The generation of support structures in Fusion differs a bit from how other FFF slicers do them. In most FFF slicers, supports are automatically generated, and the user often has minimal control over their shape and where they are placed. Some slicers do have extended support capabilities, but they hit the same major hurdles that the other slicers hit \u2013 precise manual placement of support is generally not possible. However, in Fusion, since we can slice <a href=\"https:\/\/help.autodesk.com\/view\/fusion360\/ENU\/?guid=GUID-05F58BC6-C2E8-4965-8CA8-E370CED415A5\">BRep<\/a> (boundary representation) bodies, and not just meshes, we can actually select specific faces of the body that we wish to generate support on. There are many slicers that have this functionality, but it is cumbersome to use. In Fusion, we\u2019ve tried to simplify and clean up this workflow.&nbsp; To do this, we\u2019ve added something we call \u201cBody presets\u201d. These are groups of settings that can be different for each body on the print bed.
