It&#8217;s the recommended first step you should take when creating your designs, and is mentioned ALL over the place (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=f1Nx0kd-cJE&amp;t=6s\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VbSkwvZyU_0?t=14m22s\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/L6MMw-dfS8s?t=1m57s\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/post-your-tips-and-tutorials\/fusion-360-r-u-l-e-1-and-2\/m-p\/6581749#M1100\">here<\/a>&#8230;.and <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/design-validate-document\/mirrored-and-patterned-sketches-do-not-appear-to-be-closed\/m-p\/5991914#M42791\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, if I\u00a0said I <strong>always<\/strong> adhered to it, that would be a fib. It\u2019s not that I don\u2019t see its value or agree with its use; my failure to\u00a0implement it is more likely the result of the haste I usually find myself in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What we learned recently &#8211;and have used almost daily\u00a0since&#8211; is that even if you forget to enact R.U.L.E. #1, there&#8217;s a chance you can associate the sketches and bodies to components at a later time.\u00a0In the following QUICK TIP, I&#8217;ll do just that:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"QUICK TIP: R.U.L.E #1 Failure\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uJE-n4hyIlA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While I show this method\u00a0in use in a simple case, and a not-so-simple case, I&#8217;m sure there are other situations where it simply won&#8217;t work. I&#8217;m saying this, because you shouldn&#8217;t rely upon this to work all the time.
