Is it going to fit together? Can I make it lighter?&#8221; Simulation shows you forces and loads and how they interact with your design, saving you precious time, materials, and headaches of experiencing design faults the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XggxeuFDaDU\">hard way<\/a>.&nbsp; We think Simulation is a key part of the design process, and that if you&#8217;re designing something, you should be simulating it so that you can optimize your design, before it gets in the hands of all your customers.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are 3 major areas where we made updates to the Simulation workspace. It\u2019s about to get nerdy.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nastran-solver-comes-to-fusion-360\"><b>Nastran Solver Comes to Fusion 360 <\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/nastran\/overview\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autodesk Nastran<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is now the part of Fusion 360! This allows us to expand on the current study types and provide much more advanced capabilities mentioned below. If your assembly was very complex, going through the contact type for each part could become very a long and arduous process.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now under the Contact drop-down menu, we\u2019ve added a <\/span><b>Manage Contacts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tool where you\u2019ll find all your contacts in a neatly organized list, with contact type, penetration type, and some other info you can edit.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"961\" height=\"515\" src=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/contact-manager.gif\" alt=\"contact-manager\" class=\"wp-image-4582\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"better-mesh-control-and-accuracy\"><b>Better Mesh Control and Accuracy<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now when you generate a mesh of your design, you can fine tune the density of that mesh in specific areas so that you can maintain a certain level of detail when needed.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the Manage drop-down menu, there is a new <\/span><b>Local Mesh Control<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tool. Select the face, edge, or body you want to refine, then use the slider to change the value, and get a quick preview of the new mesh density, represented by the green dots. Once you\u2019re happy with it, click ok and re-generate the mesh. You can also set the Bolt Subtype to a threaded version if your design has threaded bolts. Aw snap!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"540\" src=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/bolted_connections_sim.gif\" alt=\"bolted_connections_sim\" class=\"wp-image-4606\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can see in this example where 3 of the 4 holes are bolted down to the plate, and the last one was left unbolted. The results show that unbolted area would be affected by the upward force applied to the top hole. Once the 4th hole is bolted down, the results got a lot more accurate in terms of where the hinge would experience potential failure. Now you compare results generated from multiple load cases in a workspace conveniently called Compare (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RXJKdh1KZ0w\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">why complicate things, right?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now within each study, you can also have multiple load cases. &nbsp;This is especially useful when you&#8217;re using shape optimization, which I&#8217;ll get into later.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1998\" height=\"1200\" src=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-10.51.22-AM.png\" alt=\"screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-10-51-22-am\" class=\"wp-image-4612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-10.51.22-AM.png 1998w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-10.51.22-AM-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-10.51.22-AM-1024x615.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-10.51.22-AM-768x461.png 768w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-21-at-10.51.22-AM-1536x923.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1998px) 100vw, 1998px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that the Compare workspace only appears after you\u2019ve solved your studies and have gotten the results. Here are a couple of tips to start comparing your results:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first time you get in, you see a Two Vertical Views layout comparing 2 identical load cases. Go to the <\/span><b>Layouts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> drop-down and select the view that works best for your needs. <\/span><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"995\" height=\"516\" src=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/compare-workspace_viewchange.gif\" alt=\"compare-workspace_viewchange\" class=\"wp-image-4954\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. Click on each frame to activate it. Now it performs a lot smoother when you drag them.<br> <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We added an angle\/rotation manipulator for Moment, Remote Force, and Linear Global Loads for easier use.<br> <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We fixed an issue where when you turned on DOF view, went under the Contacts drop-down menu and selected Manual Contact, the DOF got turned off. Sorry about that, a squirrel must have chewed on the backend wiring.<br> <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you changed the load type to Hydrostatic Pressure load in the Structural Load command, selected a surface point on a face as target, and then turned on Point Coordinates, the distances are now no longer related to the Global origin. Another weird bug squashed.<br> <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before, the stress\/strain tensors showed the directions as Normal XX, YY, ZZ and Shear XY, YZ, XZ. Technically, the order indicates normal and direction vectors, so XZ should really be ZX. Now with Swarf, you can use the side of the tool to create a toolpath that can easily cut a chamfer, in quicker time, and with a much better surface finish. Now you can hide\/expand all to better manage your library.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was a WCS problem where rough turning was going at an angle when the WCS is set to Use Stock &amp; Orientation, but by changing it to Use Model &amp; Orientation, it would cut correctly. We got this one sorted out. <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We fixed a bug where if you selected multiple tools and wanted to copy them in the tool library and paste them in a local library folder that you created, the copy for some odd reason only copied the first tool and not the rest. <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously we found cases where 2D contour strategies toolpaths did not follow conic curves well. Actually, they were way off. You\u2019re welcome.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"here-are-a-couple-notable-fixes-in-2d-drawings\"><strong>Here are a couple notable fixes in 2D drawings: <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"http:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/user\/viewprofilepage\/user-id\/1823245\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kiril_lazarov<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported an issue where he wasn\u2019t able to get into the 2D drawing workspace. We later found out that if you were running a Windows machine and had your OS language set to Bulgarian, opened Fusion 360 and created a 2D drawing, Fusion would completely get stumped and crash. Our bad; this is now fixed. <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was an issue where if you are running macOS Sierra and output a PDF version of your 2D drawing where you had some shaded views, they did not appear in the PDF for some weird reason. Now they should.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"modeling\">Modeling<\/h2>\n\n\n<p><b>New Objects To Cut options &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;Previously when you made cuts to a design where the cut is going through multiple bodies or components, yet you didn\u2019t want certain ones to be cut, you had go through a really convoluted work-around to actually be able to select what objects you wanted to cut. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now when you do this, a list will appear, showing all the bodies and components affected by the cut, with check boxes next to them so you can easily omit the ones you don\u2019t want to be cut.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1047\" height=\"800\" src=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/objects_to_cut.jpg\" alt=\"objects_to_cut\" class=\"wp-image-4807\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/objects_to_cut.jpg 1047w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/objects_to_cut-300x229.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/objects_to_cut-1024x782.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/objects_to_cut-768x587.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1047px) 100vw, 1047px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This option will appear in all cases where a cut is affecting multiple bodies\/components (Sweep, Extrude Cut, or Boolean cuts). Keep in mind that what appears in that list is based on visibility, so if you have a certain body\/component hidden and make a cut, those objects will not appear in the list. Once a cut is created, Fusion 360 will remember everything that was checked, so when you edit the feature, it won\u2019t change the things that are cut or not cut.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"some-other-notable-fixes-include\"><strong>Some other Notable fixes include:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wojtek&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/design-validate-document\/fusion360-crash-when-quot-paste-new-quot-component\/m-p\/6576640\/highlight\/false\">reported an issue<\/a> where when he tried to copy and past new on a component, Fusion would lock up and get all cranky. Our support team was able to give him a workaround the issue, but we&#8217;re glad to report that this is now fixed on our end. Fixing this also allowed us to improve copy\/paste performance.<\/li><li><a id=\"link_1a5f37b33eaeb6\" class=\"lia-link-navigation lia-page-link lia-user-name-link\" href=\"http:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/user\/viewprofilepage\/user-id\/1219014\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">thburn<\/a>&nbsp;was experiencing a <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/design-validate-document\/where-did-my-2nd-component-go\/td-p\/6298145\">weird issue<\/a> where one of the two components he created disappeared when he activated the other component and moved the timeline marker back one step. He also found that if he selected &#8220;Delete all features after history marker&#8221; not only deletes the features in that activated component, but as well as all components. Now, &#8220;Delete all features after history marker&#8221; will only delete features in that active component.<\/li><li><a id=\"link_1a6051f555b9b2\" class=\"lia-link-navigation lia-page-link lia-user-name-link\" href=\"http:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/user\/viewprofilepage\/user-id\/3943666\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">john.pahl<\/a>&nbsp;reported <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/design-validate-document\/create-a-rigid-group-udemy-section-3-lecture-14\/m-p\/6482646\/highlight\/false#M67612\">this issue<\/a> where Fusion 360 wasn&#8217;t saving edits made to rigid groups. He had 7 components selected as rigid group. He then removed one, resulting in 6 components as a rigid group, but when he tried to move the group, the one that was removed still moved with the group. Apparently it didn&#8217;t want to let go! We made sure that there are no strings attached now.<\/li><li>There was a compute issue where no matter what <a id=\"link_1a6096401a8825\" class=\"lia-link-navigation lia-page-link lia-user-name-link\" href=\"http:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/user\/viewprofilepage\/user-id\/2638427\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">innovatem<\/a>&nbsp;tried to do, he could not fill&nbsp;the hole in his <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.autodesk.com\/t5\/design-validate-document\/why-can-t-i-patch-this-hole-something-so-simple\/m-p\/6580917\/highlight\/false#M74304\">spoon model<\/a>, even though the preview showed it working fine. Loft? Nope. Patch? Failed. We did some digging and learned&nbsp;that the issue&nbsp;had something to do with our parametric compute engine. Now Patching the hole works as expected.<\/li><li>We found a bug where if you suppressed a Sculpted Form entity from the Timeline (Right click &gt; Suppress Features), you were still able to edit the form by right-clicking on the entity and selecting edit. This defeats the whole purpose of suppressing a feature! So yeah, we got it this fixed.<\/li><li>We&#8217;ve improved stability on insert DXFs, specifically on machines running Mac OS.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"usability\">Usability<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ui-improvements\"><b>UI Improvements  <\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We updated the engine that drives Fusion 360\u2019s UI, which not only makes various UI elements look crisper on 4K displays, it will also allow us to work on fixing some of those irritating issues like Fusion jumping in front of all your windows and grabbing attention. We know, and we\u2019re working on getting rid of that once and for all.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"new-viewer-permission-in-fusion-360-team\"><strong>New Viewer Permission in Fusion 360 Team<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Previously there were only two roles supported within a project: Editor and Project Admin. Project Admin could do everything Editor did, as well as control member approvals and access settings. Now you can invite people as viewers only, so that they can be a part of your project, but only have access to view your designs, and not modify, download, or delete.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"759\" height=\"405\" src=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/invite_viewer.png\" alt=\"invite_viewer\" class=\"wp-image-4876\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/invite_viewer.png 759w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/invite_viewer-300x160.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 759px) 100vw, 759px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re a project manager in a specific project, you can assign members as viewers under the Role options.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fusion-360-no-longer-runs-on-mac-os-x-10-9\"><b>Fusion 360 no longer runs on Mac OS X 10.9<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will run on OS X 10.10 and newer, including macOS 10.12 Sierra. 10.9 is getting outdated and not supporting it means we can put our focus on improving performance and stability for more relevant Mac OS versions. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The easiest way to upgrade is to go to the Mac App Store and download the newest OS installer to get going.
