For all you Windows users: you can now experience Fusion 360’s CAM tech preview functionality<\/span>. Mac users will have to wait a bit since we’re still working on the Mac version…or you can run Boot Camp like Garin does :-). What makes this new addition even better is the ability to go back and forth seamlessly between data types, and we’ve set it up so that when new features like 2D drawings and animations come online, it’ll be the same streamlined experience. Here’s how it works.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once you’re ready to generate the toolpath for your design, go to the Create Derived Documents<\/strong> icon to Create a Toolpath from design<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This will open a new tab, taking your current design into the CAM work environment with all CAM related tools available to use in the toolbar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When you need to make a design change, simple go the Open using documents<\/strong> icon and choose the original design. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Make the changes necessary…<\/span><\/p>\n

Save the most current version…<\/span><\/p>\n

Go back to the CAM tab or go to the design details page from your dashboard and click on Open Toolpath.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And Fusion 360 will notify you that you’ve made a change to your design and will ask you if you want to update the toolpath model or keep the current one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you clicked Yes<\/strong>, your toolpath model will update to reflect the change you’ve made in the design environment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The experience of searching for your data has also improved, where now, you can search by multiple terms, by keywords, and by materials used in your designs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You can also\u00a0search within the details page of a design from the dashboard, just start typing and the results will auto-populate.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Click on Select<\/strong> to insert the design into the design environment you have open, and voila. This can be really useful if you have a bunch standard parts (screws, bolts, etc) that you do not wish to redesign over and over, and would rather just insert them whenever their needed.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Along with data improvements comes the new data viewer. This new viewer is also being used in our Fusion 360 gallery<\/span><\/a><\/span>, and share the same functionalities with it’s dashboard counterpart.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The viewing quality has vastly improved, with more control over how you want to view your designs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You can change your focal length from 10mm to 200mm…<\/span><\/p>\n

Explore the model structure and view an individual component of that design and its properties…<\/span><\/p>\n

Explode the model with a scroll manipulator at the top (will only work with components, not bodies)…\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And change background color, as well as performance and quality of the viewer (turning off the environment map option will turn off the blue hue reflections).<\/span><\/p>\n

Easier invite process<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Instead of inviting members of your team to an entire project, you can now invite them to individual designs, and certain version of your design.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking ahead, we are working on implementing the ability to share a link of a specific design to anyone and they will be able to view it in a web browser as well as download the file in various formats.
