However, in all the excitement of creating a new study, it can be easy to forget how flexible and dynamic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/generative-design-extension#trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the tool<\/a> actually is.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like any other tool, it\u2019s up to you to best apply generative design to your workflow. If you\u2019re looking to take your workflow to the next level, here are some things you may not know the tool can do:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"easily-edit-your-generative-design-partsnbsp\">Easily edit your generative design parts <\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Next time you produce a study, know that you still have options. A converged study doesn\u2019t have to mean the end of your process. Sometimes you want to use a generatively designed part as is, and sometimes, it doesn\u2019t meet your desired aesthetic language. Maybe you want to add some symmetry, smooth out some surface tension, or use the part geometry as a basis for something entirely new built by hand. You can edit these features to modify the part as you see fit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that what the generative design tool initially produces is the most optimized form for your mechanical specifications. If you change the part, you will also change its performance. That\u2019s where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/fusion-360-simulation-extension\/\">simulation<\/a> comes in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"check-part-performance-in-the-fusion-360-simulation-workspacenbsp\">Check part performance in the Fusion 360 Simulation Workspace <\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Did you know that generatively designed parts carry over their study data? It\u2019s true! When you switch to the Simulation Workspace, a prompt will appear asking if you\u2019d like to use your part\u2019s study data for <a href=\"https:\/\/help.autodesk.com\/view\/fusion360\/ENU\/?guid=GUID-D0947E92-01B7-47BC-ADD8-CB3745200228\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">simulation setups<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simulation results will give you a wealth of detailed information about how your design performs under all the loading conditions it will be under. Results can also be a valuable validation tool, just as if you\u2019d made a CAD model yourself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generative design studies are pre-populated with the loading information you used to create your setup, letting you run a simulation study with the click of a button.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"QUICK TIP: Simulate Generative Exports\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Utz6CIbTtR4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen style=\"aspect-ratio:500 \/ 281;width:100%;height:auto;\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Simulation can also be a great way to consider physical requirements that are impossible to set up as objectives for generative design, such as thermal stresses or dynamic loads. You can think about generative design as an intelligent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/5-most-used-cad-file-formats-fusion-360\/\">CAD<\/a> modeler that creates a highly efficient shape that might be 95% of the way to your final design. However, that doesn\u2019t necessarily answer all the questions you might have. You may need to answer additional questions about how your part performs. For example, you can also run an event simulation to see how your part will perform under a specific condition. One of the most common conditions to test is an impact collision. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is just the beginning, though. Generatively designed parts can also test for thermal stress (e.g. is heat transferring through your assembly now that you\u2019ve introduced a generatively designed part?). You can also put parts back into an assembly. <br>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"use-generative-design-when-you-want-it-how-you-want-itnbsp\">Use generative design when you want it, how you want it <\/h2>\n\n\n<p>These are just a few tips for incorporating generative design into your workflow in new ways.
