I\u2019ll show you how to create a new Fusion design. Then we\u2019ll look at how you can start with some simple shapes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Start a new design<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Create a new Fusion design to get started. Click the Create menu then select Design.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign1.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113827iC6925B15D947EB9B\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign1.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Give your design a name and assign a project. Use projects to organize your designs and related data.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign2.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113829i3BCCAD838EBDC52D\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign2.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A new empty design is created and opened. This is your blank canvas to create anything you like. We\u2019ll create some simple shapes to introduce you to the different types of geometry you can create.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Create basic bodies<\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019ll start in the Model workspace. Use the Model workspace to create prismatic shapes with straight faces and edges. There are basic shape commands in the Create menu (box, cylinder, sphere, and coil). Click on Box to begin creating a box. Select the bottom (XZ) plane then pick two points to define the corners of a rectangle. Specify a height by entering a value in the dialog box or by dragging the manipulator arrow. You can use the values shown in the dialog or use your own values. Click OK to complete the box.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign3.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113831i93669E011E402CB7\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign3.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The commands in the Create menu can be used to add geometry to a body. Use Cylinder to add to the box you just created. Click the Cylinder command in the Create menu. Select the top face of the box to position the cylinder. Move the cursor to the midpoint of the top edge and click to specify the center of the cylinder. Click on one of the corners to specify the diameter of the cylinder.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign4.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113833iFD0DB7BF5A467FBC\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign4.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Specify -10 mm for the height in the dialog or by dragging the manipulator arrow. Change the Operation to Join to add material to the body and click OK.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign5.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113835iFEAFB84C87B37B20\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign5.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The body should look similar to this, depending on the values you used.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign6.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113837iF4D4EC0DD7A820EE\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign6.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Use sketches to create bodies<\/h2>\n<p>Use 2D sketches to create bodies that are more complex than a simple cube or cylinder.\u00a0 We\u2019ll create and \u201cL\u201d shape sketch but 2D sketches can be as complex as needed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Start the 2-Point Rectangle command in the sketch menu.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign7.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113841i3CF5C5054109B568\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign7.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Select the same XZ plane you used for the box earlier. \u00a0Click a point to position the first corner of the rectangle then enter 10, press &lt;Tab&gt;, enter 75, and press &lt;Tab&gt; again. Click to finish the rectangle. Dimensions are added automatically when you enter values for the size instead of picking points.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Repeat the process to create a 65 mm by 10 mm rectangle perpendicular to the first rectangle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Start the 3-Point Arc command in the Sketch menu. Pick the two top corners of the first rectangle then move the cursor and click when you see the tangent symbol\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"tangentsymbol.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113845iB52038723827E3F9\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"tangentsymbol.png\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00a0.\u00a0Repeat this process to create an arc on the second rectangle. The sketch should look like the \u201cL\u201d shape below.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign8.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113847i1D62266CD77A31EE\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign8.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Click the Extrude command in the Create menu. Click the four profiles (two rectangles and two arcs) then specify 10 mm for the Distance. Click OK to create the new body.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign9.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113849i7E620F626BFE86F6\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign9.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Create sculpted forms<\/h2>\n<p>Organic shapes are also very easy to create using Fusion 360. Use the Sculpt workspace to create organic shapes. Click Create Form in the Create menu to enter the Sculpt workspace. Read the prompt that is displayed then click OK to dismiss it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign10.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113851iB8370178681335F3\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign10.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Sculpt workspace has the same simple shapes that we saw in the Model workspace plus a few more. Sculpt also has Extrude, Revolve, Sweep, and Loft for create bodies using 2D sketches. It is most common to start with a simple shape when in the Sculpt workspace. Click Box in the Create menu.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign11.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113853i5B7D29D857144752\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign11.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pick the same XZ plane that we used to start the first box. Pick a point for the center of the rectangle then enter 25, press &lt;Tab&gt;, enter 100, and press &lt;Tab&gt;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign12.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113855i7BF7ED9A74A0E77C\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign12.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The number of faces on bodies determines the control you have over the shape. You want to use the minimum number of faces on a body to give the desired control. Enter 4 for the Length Faces and Width Faces then click OK to create the box.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign13.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113857iF551F70317693139\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign13.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Use the Modify commands to make changes to the bodies in the Sculpt workspace. Click Edit Form in the Modify menu.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"EmptyDesign15.png\" src=\"http:\/\/autodesk.i.lithium.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/113859iFC4826E35CBF7777\/image-size\/original?v=mpbl-1&amp;px=-1\" alt=\"EmptyDesign15.png\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Double-click on the middle edge to select the entire ring of edges. Drag the corner manipulator to change scale the edges. Click one of the arrow manipulators to move the edges. You have created your first bodies in Fusion 360.
