Have you ever viewed an assembly in Fusion Team that doesn\u2019t \u201cuse\u201d any parts because it’s made up of internal components? Do you wish you could look inside an assembly to see its internal components without<\/em> the need to open the entire<\/em> file? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the new Component View in Fusion Team is a perfect fit for you. Component View is a new view created to show you detailed information about your design data outside of the Fusion 360<\/a> canvas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"introducing-component-view-fusion-team\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Fusion 360 encourages users to model all components inside a single file instead of referencing external parts to build an assembly. A component created within an assembly is called an\u202f<\/em>internal\u202fcomponent. Internal components are quick and easy to make, but they aren’t accessible outside of their parent assembly file. Historically, there hasn’t been a way to access internal components, assembly structure, and metadata without opening the entire parent assembly file in Fusion 360 \u2014 until Component View! <\/p>\n\n\n

What is Component View and Why Would I Use It? <\/h2>\n\n\n

Component View is a tabular view that shows an assembly\u2019s hierarchy, complete with all sub-assemblies and parts, nested in hierarchical order with a corresponding thumbnail image. Component View lists each component\u2019s metadata as columns in the table. You can see property values, such as Description, Part Number, and Material Name for each component, all at once. If you have Manage Extension<\/a>, Component View also shows each component\u2019s Manage properties. You can see Item Numbers, Lifecycle, State, and hyperlinks to each component\u2019s Manage Item Overview and change orders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Component View also allows you to browse the data for any historical version and supports the Export of any component to the file format of your choice. Use this feature to quickly export internal components to STL for 3D printing<\/a> or to extract internal components to share with external vendors without exposing an entire assembly.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of Component View is to give you access to internal components and assembly data outside Fusion 360, so you can perform process, management, and collaboration<\/a> workflows in a web-based environment that is practical and natural. Imagine being able to milestone, release, issue change orders, get procurement information, and more for internal and external components from an accessible browser page. <\/p>\n\n\n

How to Enabe and Access Component View <\/h2>\n\n\n

Component View is in Fusion Team. Therefore, your Team admin must enable Component View for your entire Team hub.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Team hub admin, navigate to Team Hub Settings<\/strong>. Find the Preview Tab<\/strong> at the top of the page. Open the Preview tab<\/strong> and find the Component View<\/strong> preview. Click the Edit<\/strong> button, turn the toggle on, and click Save<\/strong>.  Component View will now be visible for all members of your team. For more detailed instructions, please visit our help page here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once your admin has enabled Component View in your Team Hub, select a Fusion 360 assembly in Fusion Team (or Manage Extension Home tab) and click on it to open the Overview<\/strong>. Next to the Overview<\/strong> tab, you should see a Components<\/strong> tab. Click on this tab to open Component View! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known Limitations <\/h2>\n\n\n

Component View is a tech preview, so it\u2019s still under development. Therefore, there are some known limitations we wish to address: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Fusion 360 Data Only<\/strong>: Component View is only available for Fusion 360 3D data stored in Fusion Team as F3D files. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
    1. AnyCAD<\/strong>: Data referenced into a Fusion 360 design via AnyCAD does not appear in Component View. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      1. Derives<\/strong>: A component\u2019s derivative(s) do not appear with that component in Component View. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
        1. Missing Data – Spilled Coffee Cup Icon<\/strong>: If you open Component View and see a spilled coffee cup icon, it means that your design\u2019s data has not been stored in a way Component View can read it. To fix this, open the design in Fusion 360 (no save required). Wait a couple of minutes and re-load Fusion Team and Component View. If you continue to have issues, reach out to us via the Fusion 360 Feedback Forum<\/a>. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
