I, for one, can\u2019t get the image of aliens, cumbersome space helmets, and clouds of red dust out of my head.&nbsp;When you think about it, though, we really haven\u2019t been given much to work with. We have complicated scientific discoveries, and we have Sci-fi movies loosely based on science, but we don\u2019t really have anything in between.&nbsp;We lack a regular human perspective on how we might be able to live in (not just visit) space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though many advancements have been made in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/blog\/aerospace-engineering\/\">aerospace<\/a> over the last century, it\u2019s still difficult to imagine what it would actually be like to live up there. The MIT Space Exploration Initiative designed this device so that astronauts and future space travelers can maintain an emotional connection with their favorite places on Earth.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>What will our homes look like? What types of instruments can we play? How will we maintain an emotional connection to Earth? These are just a few of the questions the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.media.mit.edu\/groups\/space-exploration\/overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MIT Space Exploration Initiative<\/a> asks during their design process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this group of 50-plus MIT student and faculty scientists, engineers and designers doesn\u2019t just imagine. They don\u2019t even just prototype. They actually <em>build<\/em> their ideas and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.media.mit.edu\/groups\/space-exploration\/projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launch them into space<\/a>\u2014a real-life <a href=\"https:\/\/memory-alpha.fandom.com\/wiki\/Starfleet_Academy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Starfleet Academy<\/a>, if you will.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this episode, we chat with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.media.mit.edu\/people\/aekblaw\/overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ariel Ekblaw<\/a>, founder and Director of the MIT Space Exploration Initiative, and <a href=\"https:\/\/cwandt.com\/pages\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Che-Wei Wang<\/a>, an industrial designer who uses<a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/fusion-360\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Fusion 360<\/a> to bring the team\u2019s visions to life.
