Nearly a year ago we built a brand new routing engine for EAGLE. Now it\u2019s time to start reaping the rewards of this new foundation in version 8.5. Let\u2019s check out how we\u2019re powering up routing inside.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"locked-objects\">Locked Objects<\/h2>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ever wish you could lock specific objects\/traces so they would not move around when placing or routing? Now you can! The new Locked Objects feature allows you to lock any object on your PCB layout including:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traces <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holes<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vias <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polygons<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Components<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This feature comes in handy if you need to hand off your design to Fusion without worrying about mission-critical elements being moved. It\u2019s also great for constraining your board layout during routing. Maybe you have a pair of perfectly matched differential pairs that you don&#8217;t want to move? Lock those copper objects and route without any worries. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Locked Objects will prevent any locked object from being moved, deleted, meandered, sliced, metered, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-use-it\">How to Use It<\/h3>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Select the new <\/span><b>Lock <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tool the left-hand side of your interface to activate lock mode, then <\/span><b>left-click<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an object to lock it. \u00a0Or you can simply <\/span><b>right-click<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the object and select lock. It would be great if all of those objects would just move out of the way when routing a new trace. Now they will!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Push and Shove routing, it\u2019s easier than ever to route professional board layouts with a routing mode that adapts and reacts to your design environment as you work. There are quite a few use cases where Push and Shove will make your life easier, such as:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Bus or Multi-Trace Routing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; When you need to maintain tight track spacing by pushing traces together until they\u2019re precisely aligned. <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Fanning Out<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; When you\u2019re working on routing a QFP or BGA with hundreds of finely-pitched connections that would take hours to route manually. <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Adding New Nets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; When you need to move existing tracks to route a critical trace through existing routing paths. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, Push and Shove doesn\u2019t just plow through every object. This new routing mode will always adhere to your DRC rules and locked objects.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-use-it-2\">How to Use It<\/h3>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two ways to activate the new Push and Shove routing mode. When in routing mode, check out the top of your interface and select the new <\/span><b>Push Obstacles&nbsp;<\/b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2006 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/eagle\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/PushObstacles-e1513105268514.png\" alt=\"Push-Obstacles-icon\" width=\"16\" height=\"17\"><b>&nbsp;<\/b>tool in your route menu, to activate Push and Shove routing.
