The new Autodesk EAGLE is here, and it\u2019s better than ever! There\u2019s a ton of enhancements and new features inside to help you push your engineering limits in your schematic editing, PCB layout, and BGA fanouts. But not everything has changed. The EAGLE that you know and love continues to work on your platform of choice, whether that\u2019s Windows, Mac, or Linux. This is what continues to make EAGLE so popular – it\u2019s the PCB design software for every engineer, regardless of your operating system preference. We\u2019ve got them all covered in this installation blog.  Enjoy!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

System Requirements<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n

You won\u2019t need a supercomputer to run the new Autodesk EAGLE. We\u2019ve kept things simple and efficient to allow your PCB designs to run on any platform with a variety of hardware configurations. Before you get started, make sure you meet the minimum requirements below for your operating system:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With your system specs confirmed, let\u2019s go through the installation process.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Installing Autodesk EAGLE On Windows<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n

For our installation blog, we\u2019ll be working with Windows 10, but your experience should largely be similar whether you\u2019re on Windows 7 or Windows 8. Here\u2019s what to do:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. First, download your installer on the <\/span>Autodesk EAGLE Free Download page<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/b><\/b><\/b><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. When your download is finished, open <\/span>\n
    Autodesk_EAGLE_8.0_English_Win_64bit.exe<\/span><\/pre>\n
    If you get a security warning, select the <\/span>Run<\/strong> button to continue.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Select the <\/span>Yes<\/strong> button on the next Windows security dialog box to allow the EAGLE Setup app to make changes to your device.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. You should now be looking at the EAGLE Setup wizard<\/b>. First, accept the license agreement, then select the <\/span>Next <\/b>button to continue progressing through the setup process to create your installation folder and the desktop shortcut.

  5. On the final step of the wizard, select the Install<\/b> button to begin the installation process.

  6. With your installation complete go ahead and open Autodesk EAGLE. The first time you run Autodesk EAGLE, you\u2019ll need to sign in to your existing Autodesk account or create a new account.

    After signing in you should be greeted with the familiar yet new Autodesk EAGLE <\/span>Control Panel<\/b> as shown below! You\u2019re ready to start your next design.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Quick Note:<\/b> The first time you open Autodesk EAGLE you\u2019ll likely get a warning dialog saying that a directory doesn\u2019t exist for your files. Autodesk EAGLE is just letting you know that it needs to create this directory to store all of your project files and such. You can select the <\/span>Yes <\/b>button to create this directory, and this warning will never show up again. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n
    Installing Autodesk EAGLE On a Mac<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n
    Autodesk EAGLE is one of few PCB design software available on Mac, which makes it the tool of choice for the growing numbers of Mac-centric engineers out there. The installation process to get Autodesk EAGLE running on a Mac is just as simple as Windows, here\u2019s what to do:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. First, download your installer on the Autodesk EAGLE Free Download page<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. When your download is finished, go ahead, and open\n
       Autodesk_EAGLE_8.0_English_Mac_64bit.pkg<\/pre>\n
      to begin the installation wizard.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Select the Continue<\/strong> button to progress through the installation setup process which includes accepting the license agreement and choosing an installation location.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    4. On the final step of the wizard, you\u2019ll select the <\/span>Install<\/b> button to begin the installation process. When the installation completes, select <\/span>Close.

    5. With your installation complete go ahead and open Autodesk EAGLE from your <\/span>Launchpad<\/b>. The first time you run Autodesk EAGLE, you\u2019ll need to sign in to your existing Autodesk account or create a new account.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      After signing it, you\u2019ll be greeted with the Autodesk EAGLE <\/span>Control Panel<\/b> as shown below. You are all set on Mac OS!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Installing Autodesk EAGLE On Linux<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n
      Linux is the operating system of choice for those wanting complete control over their computing experience. It\u2019s incredibly easy to get started with Linux these days, and if you\u2019d like to follow along with us, we\u2019d recommend downloading one of the most popular Linux distributions – <\/span>Ubuntu<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
      We\u2019ll be installing Autodesk EAGLE on the latest release of Ubuntu, version 16.04, 64-bit. Here\u2019s how to get started:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. First, download your installer on the <\/span>Autodesk EAGLE Free Download page<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Next, you need to extract<\/span>\n
        Autodesk_EAGLE_8.0_English_Linux_64bit.tar.gz<\/span><\/pre>\n
        To do this, open your Downloads<\/em> folder, right-click the Autodesk EAGLE file, and select Open With Archive Manager<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Open your downloaded Autodesk EAGLE installer with the Archive Manager in Ubuntu.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
      3. Now select the <\/span>Extract <\/b>button and extract the folder to your preferred location.

        Extract all of your Autodesk EAGLE files to a location of your choice.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
      4. You should now have an extracted <\/span>eagle-8.0.0<\/span><\/em> folder to work with. Right-click this folder and select <\/span>Open in Terminal<\/b>.

      5. To run Autodesk EAGLE, all you need to do now is enter \u201c.\/eagle run\u201d and press Enter<\/strong>. Give it a few seconds, and you\u2019ll be greeted with the Autodesk login screen.

      6. Sign into your existing Autodesk account or create a new one and you should now be seeing the Autodesk EAGLE <\/span>Control Panel<\/b>. If a warning dialog opens to create a new directory, select the <\/span>Yes <\/b>button.

        You\u2019re done! Anytime you want to run Autodesk EAGLE in the future simply pop open your terminal, navigate to the <\/span>eagle-8.0.0<\/span> folder, and enter \u201c.\/eagle run\u201d to bring up your <\/span>Control Panel<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
