3 New PCB Design Technologies You’ll Only See at DesignCon 2018
It’s that time of the year again; we’re diving into the heart of innovation at DesignCon 2018 in Silicon Valley! The Bay Area has always held a special place in our heart. It’s the birthplace of innovation and where we as a company call home. It’s also that one place in the world where you feel like you’re living in the future. This year is no exception, especially for PCB design technology.
New to DesignCon?
This is a one of a kind event that brings together chip, board, and systems design engineers in the high-speed communications and semiconductor industries. For three solid days, you’ll engage in training, keynotes, and learning tracks to improve and expand your engineering skills.
This isn’t just an excuse to get out of the office for three days. It’s a chance to connect with like-minded individuals and experts that are passionate about the work they do. With all of this brilliance in one place, there’s a lot to enjoy:
Learn from the best and brightest in the industry with interactive training boot camps. This is a great opportunity to upgrade your skills in Signal Integrity, Differential Signaling, and Test & Measurements Techniques.

Just beginning your career in electronics design? It’s common to see IEEE certification as a listed job requirement. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers will be offering their accreditation to all-access and two-day conference pass holders. Get your first IEEE certification and upgrade your resume!

This year’s conference offers 14 sessions to get your learning on track for the latest technologies. Sit back and soak in some new knowledge. Maybe you’ll uncover a nugget of wisdom that helps you break through a barrier in your current project. Some of the Conference Tracks include:
- Integrated photonic and electronic signaling
- Applying PCB design and simulation tools
- High-speed signal processing, equalization, and coding

The Big 3 Features
Maybe you’ve been to DesignCon in the past and knew what to expect. What’s so special about this year? This year, my friends are the only year that you’ll be seeing three new PCB design technologies that will shape the future of PCB design.
Since joining the Autodesk family, we’ve been honored to have access to some of the most innovative technology available. Generative design. Simulation. Automation. The list can go on. Autodesk has been at the forefront of developing the future of engineering technologies, and now it’s time for EAGLE to get its share of the bounty, such as:
Library creation has always been a manual and tedious process. You make your symbol, package, device, and hope there’s a 3D model available for download. This all takes a lot of time. What if all it took was entering a few bits of information from a datasheet and having your parts built for you? That’s the power of automation, freeing us from the tedium.
Assistive PCB Routing
We all have a love/hate relationship with our autorouters. When’s the last time you ran yours? We’re totally rethinking the automation of routing into more of an assistant. Things like automatically cleaning up trace angles, or routing differential pairs together. Those are all tedious tasks that can be automated. But the power to route a bus or pair of differential pairs precisely? That’s where the power of the engineer comes in, and where assistive routing technology can help. One step closer to Generative PCB Design.
Trying to parse through a dense board layout for one specific component or net is no easy task in any PCB design tool. What if you just need to adjust the value of one capacitor? All of the pinching, zooming, and dragging won’t save you. But imagine this, what if there was a kind of console that showed all of your design assets at a glance? Every net, every part, every object. All at easy reach for you to search, filter, and edit.
Getting excited? This is just a small sampling of what’s inside the coming release of Autodesk EAGLE. We’re paving a path forward for the future of electronics design; all made possible with Autodesk technology in EAGLE.
