Soul of the machine with SAFE Boats

Autodesk

Product Design

Every engineer has a story, and with every story comes a unique perspective on what it means to be an engineer. In this episode of “Soul of the Machine,” we meet Jon Godbolt, a design engineer at SAFE Boats International in Bremerton, Washington.

At SAFE Boats, Jon helps build products that save lives and protect and serve the United States. Engineers are known for problem solving and creating valuable products, but they find fulfilment and motivation in different places. For Jon, feeling like he’s building something unique and special is what makes going to work every day enjoyable.

In the episode, Jon shares insights on different aspects of his career path, including:

  • His experience teaching himself how to perform various engineering tasks
  • What he has learned from working with his colleagues
  • The understanding he has gained about the product development process from working in different roles and positions
  • The places he finds meaning and purpose in his work
  • The importance of engineers, and the qualities of a good engineer

Watch the video to see Jon’s story, and hear one perspective on what it means to be an engineer.
