Creating an existing ground surface
Module | Skill builder

Discover how surfaces in Civil 3D are used when establishing existing conditions in a civil project. Create a 3D representation of the ground as you create and modify surfaces. Incorporate survey points and 3D polylines into the surface. Learn to work with grid surfaces, created by importing DEM files and breaklines such as embankments, road edges, and ditches.

Once the surface is created, work with editing tools to fix errors and further refine the surface. Add surface styles, labels, and tables to convey surface information on your design plans and work with volume surfaces for calculating cut and fill. Finally, wrap up the lesson by creating boundaries for surfaces.

After completing this lesson, you'll be able to:

  • Understand surfaces and how they are used in Civil 3D.
  • Build surfaces from project data.
  • Edit surfaces.
  • Use surface styles and labels.
  • Create boundaries for surfaces.
