The AEC industry has changed in many ways since NRI’s founding back in 1898. For example, at the turn of the 20th century, documents were drawn by hand on materials like linen and reproduced with then “state-of-the-art” blueprinting processes. Today, designers rely on digital tools and technology to design, document, communicate, and distribute their ideas. The widespread adoption of BIM and the growing amount of fast track and design/build projects has led to an increasing need for on-site technology that supports highly collaborative processes throughout design and construction. To meet these 21st-century technology demands, NRI has launched a new initiative with partner Williams Scotsman. Together they have developed a mobile office solution called techsuite™.
techsuite is a high-tech modular unit that comes fully equipped with technology solutions and equipment bundles. Equipment like HP color plotters are deployed with full-size scanners to facilitate clash detection and streamline the transfer of critical project information in and out of document management systems. techsuite can also include equipment like interactive whiteboards by SMART® that help speed up RFI and submittal processes. Combining innovative software like Autodesk® Revit® software, Autodesk® Navisworks® software products, and Autodesk® BIM 360™ software products with other techsuite equipment helps to focus attention on important issues and to accomplish tasks in real time to support highly collaborative workflows. In addition to helping quickly resolve RFIs and deliver a project closeout in record time, these processes also help team members avoid miscommunication, project errors, and missteps.
“Hensel Phelps turned to the techsuite program to add technology solutions to our jobsite office and encourage owner participation in the digital processes of construction and collaboration,” said Chad Neukirch, project engineer for Hensel Phelps, Construction Group. “The equipment that techsuite provided supported our digital document distribution, coordination and collaboration processes, and helped streamline our everyday communication processes.”
One of NRI’s largest divisions is On-Site Services. For years, NRI has given A/E firms the ability to use the latest and greatest technology at their offices, with full support and maintenance, along with cost recovery solutions that help manage the ROI. These solutions range from copiers and plotters to 3D printers and professional services. The partnership with Williams Scotsman extends that business model to the jobsite.
By partnering with firms like Autodesk, Hewlett Packard, SMART, CISCO, EarthCam, and many others, NRI can deliver a one-stop-shop solution to techsuite clients and provide whatever technology is required to help meet the demands of a project.Vendor and asset management can be a huge challenge for some firms. With techsuite, those challenges may disappear. The solution can be set up at the jobsite, fully networked, and ready for operations in just a few days. And all of this for a budget-friendly monthly payment that simply gets added to the trailer rent!
