When there is more than one thing within your pickbox, your selection becomes a box of chocolates (you never know what you\u2019re going to get).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There is a tool to help you, but you may not be aware of it, as it is not on\u2014or even shown\u2014by default. Expand the Status Bar Customization menu, and you\u2019ll find Selection Cycling in AutoCAD. Select it to make it appear in the Status Bar.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8977\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SelectionCycling_1_u891fw.jpg\" alt=\"Selection Cycling Status Bar AutoCAD\" width=\"186\" height=\"232\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Turn the feature on by clicking on it in the Status Bar. (You might note in the image below the improved blue \u201con\u201d icon background in the recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/introducing-autocad-2020-autocad-lt-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AutoCAD<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/introducing-autocad-2020-autocad-lt-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2020<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8978\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SelectionCycling_2_yhmys1.jpg\" alt=\"Selection Cycling icon AutoCAD\" width=\"467\" height=\"93\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SelectionCycling_2_yhmys1.jpg 467w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SelectionCycling_2_yhmys1-300x60.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 467px) 100vw, 467px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, whenever multiple entities appear under your pickbox, you\u2019ll see a small glyph next to the cursor. Shown below, it looks like little overlapping boxes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8979\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SelectionCycling_3_akj8cb.jpg\" alt=\"Selection Cycling AutoCAD\" width=\"179\" height=\"269\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you see that glyph, you know things just got easier for you. Click away! Now, instead of AutoCAD selecting what it wants, you\u2019ll get a small window listing what entities are eligible to be selected, along with a color swatch. Hovering over one will even display the entity as being selected, complete with its grips.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8980\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SelectionCycling_4_oveezx.jpg\" alt=\"Selection Cycling AutoCAD\" width=\"349\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SelectionCycling_4_oveezx.jpg 349w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SelectionCycling_4_oveezx-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you find your intended target, just click on the entry in the box. It will disappear, and you can be on your merry way to a more productive AutoCAD session.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"but-wait-theres-more\">But Wait, There\u2019s More!<\/h2>\n<p>As you can see, in busy drawings, having Selection Cycling turned on is a good idea. You can even customize its appearance. I touched on this in a previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/autocad-drafting-tools-tuesday-tips-frank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tuesday<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/autocad-drafting-tools-tuesday-tips-frank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tip<\/a>. You can choose which quadrant of the cursor it is shown in, how far away it is from the cursor, and even whether it displays the header or not.<\/p>\n<p>Hey, you know what you\u2019re trying to select, so don\u2019t let AutoCAD decide for you.
