{"id":8801,"date":"2019-01-31T07:00:53","date_gmt":"2019-01-31T15:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/?p=8801"},"modified":"2020-04-07T20:33:50","modified_gmt":"2020-04-08T03:33:50","slug":"hidden-text-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/hidden-text-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Hidden&#8221; Text Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all use text in our drawings, and AutoCAD provides some great \u201chidden\u201d tools that can help when you need to fix mistakes that you may have done or just change the way that you need your text to look. <!--more-->Although these tools aren&#8217;t really hidden, many users just don\u2019t notice that they are available to them.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"check-spelling\">Check Spelling<\/h2>\n<p>When I am checking drawings from other drafters, there are many times that I find spelling errors. I always ask them if they have run the Check Spelling tool for the entire drawing or just for the layout(s). I am always surprised by their response\u2026\u2026..\u201dAutoCAD has a spell checker tool?\u201d Yes, AutoCAD has a spell checker tool. Navigate to the <strong>Ribbon: Annotate tab &gt; Text panel &gt; Check Spelling <\/strong>tool (<strong>SPELL<\/strong> in the command line).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8803\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_01_sfo2x4.jpg\" alt=\"Check Spelling AutoCAD\" width=\"654\" height=\"120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_01_sfo2x4.jpg 654w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_01_sfo2x4-300x55.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 654px) 100vw, 654px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the Check Spelling dialog box, there are many options that allow you to check the entire drawing, just the space you\u2019re in or objects that you have selected. If you click the <strong>Settings<\/strong> button, you can also choose which object types AutoCAD should spell check.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8804\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_02_jorzwc.jpg\" alt=\"Check Spelling AutoCAD\" width=\"548\" height=\"521\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_02_jorzwc.jpg 548w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_02_jorzwc-300x285.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the advantages to the AutoCAD Check Spelling tool compared to standard word processing tools is that as is pretty typical with engineering\/architectural drawings, most of the words in our drawings are not standard words used in \u201cregular\u201d English. If you come across a word that is not standard (e.g., riprap, DBI, SWMF, etc.), you can simply click the <strong>Add to Dictionary<\/strong> button and any future drawings will no longer consider that word as misspelled.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8805\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_03_tvc7nj.jpg\" alt=\"Add to Dictionary AutoCAD\" width=\"426\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_03_tvc7nj.jpg 426w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_03_tvc7nj-300x248.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"text-align\">Text Align<\/h2>\n<p>Have you ever had a bunch of text that you wanted to \u201clineup\u201d with each other? I have seen many users draw a line and use it to line up the text. What&#8217;s &#8220;hidden&#8221; in the\u00a0<strong>Ribbon: Annotate tab &gt; Text panel <\/strong>is the Text Align tool, which will do just this functionality.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8806\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_04_tl3ik8.jpg\" alt=\"Text Align AutoCAD\" width=\"625\" height=\"116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_04_tl3ik8.jpg 625w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/HTT_04_tl3ik8-300x56.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The tool is fairly straightforward. Simply run the tool, select the text objects that you want to align, and then you have the option to either pick a text object that you want to align to or a point instead. Simply run the tool, select the objects, and choose the justification you want.
