I love <a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.autodesk.com\/support\/autocad\/learn-explore\/caas\/CloudHelp\/cloudhelp\/2016\/ENU\/AutoCAD-Core\/files\/GUID-9751A902-27DC-4BCD-8D3D-585478B213DD-htm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SSM<\/a>; it is quite possibly one of the best time-savings tools in AutoCAD. <!--more-->It automates all aspects of plotting and publishing, and it\u2019s free&#8230;.(with AutoCAD, of course. Wink.)<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"renaming-and-renumbering-sheets-quickly\">Renaming and Renumbering Sheets Quickly<\/h2>\n<p>SSM has the ability to rename and renumber sheets. Simply right-click on a sheet in SSM and choose Rename &amp; Renumber from the context menu.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8664\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-01_qvc2tb.jpg\" alt=\"Sheet set manager renumber\" width=\"481\" height=\"678\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-01_qvc2tb.jpg 481w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-01_qvc2tb-213x300.jpg 213w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fill out the Rename &amp; Renumber dialog box and click OK. Now in the civil world, when you cut plan and profile sheets from Civil 3D, the name of the sheet is never really the actual name that you want for the title. This can sometimes be hundreds of sheets, and take quite a bit of time to edit. To easily rename and renumber let\u2019s say a hundred sheets, here\u2019s the best workflow.<\/p>\n<p>First, type the name of the sheet (i.e., PLAN &amp; PROFILE SHEET) in the Sheet title field.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8665\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-02_qmrnxi.jpg\" alt=\"Plan and Profile Sheet AutoCAD\" width=\"521\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-02_qmrnxi.jpg 521w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-02_qmrnxi-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, select the text and press CTRL+C to copy it to the clipboard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8666\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-03_o5efb1.jpg\" alt=\"Copy sheet number AutoCAD\" width=\"521\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-03_o5efb1.jpg 521w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-03_o5efb1-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Type the correct sheet number, and press ENTER.<\/p>\n<p>Now, here\u2019s the fast part. Simply number the next sheet, press TAB on the keyboard, press CTRL+V, and press ENTER on the keyboard&#8230;and repeat.<\/p>\n<p>To summarize:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Type Number<\/li>\n<li>Press TAB<\/li>\n<li>Press CTRL+V<\/li>\n<li>Press ENTER<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nice, easy, and fast.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"toggles-this-toggle-that-using-the-right-toggles\">Toggles This Toggle That: Using the Right Toggles<\/h2>\n<p>In the Rename &amp; Renumber dialog box, there are various toggles and some users have a hard time understanding which ones to toggle on\/off. Most companies typically \u201cgroup\u201d sheets (layouts) into a category drawing (i.e., plan and profile sheets, cross section sheets, structural sheets, etc.). So, for the layouts to work properly in each of these drawings, you must toggle on Sheet Title and Prefix with sheet number in the Rename options section of the Rename &amp; Renumber dialog box.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-04_nqcy5t.jpg?cld_params=w_auto:100:521\/q_auto,w_auto:100:521\" alt=\"Correcting sheet number AutoCAD\" width=\"521\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-04_nqcy5t.jpg 521w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-04_nqcy5t-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The results are a nicely organized set of layouts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8668\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-05_xzzuay.jpg?cld_params=q_auto,w_auto:100:884\/q_auto,w_auto:100:884\/q_auto,w_auto:100:884\" alt=\"rename and renumber sheet set AutoCAD\" width=\"884\" height=\"24\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-05_xzzuay.jpg 884w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-05_xzzuay-300x8.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-05_xzzuay-768x21.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 884px) 100vw, 884px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"tips-for-inserting-sheets\">Tips for Inserting Sheets<\/h2>\n<p>As is pretty typical, you will most likely need to insert a sheet in your project and have to renumber all the sheets ahead of the new sheet. One of the issues that can occur with inserting a sheet is that as you start to renumber a sheet that exists in the same drawing, you will inevitably receive the following error.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8670\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-06-1_fxpwav.jpg?cld_params=w_auto:100:352\/q_auto,w_auto:100:352\/q_auto,w_auto:100:352\/q_auto,w_auto:100:352\/q_auto,w_auto:100:352\" alt=\"sheet set error message\" width=\"352\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-06-1_fxpwav.jpg 352w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-06-1_fxpwav-300x145.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 352px) 100vw, 352px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, what this error is stating is, \u201cHey, you already have a layout with that name in the drawing.\u201d Now, this is not a quick-fix tip, but more of a tip to better keep track of your sheets. To best keep track of your sheets, simply add an \u201ca\u201d after each number until you reach the end of the redundant sheets.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8671\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-07_wbboii.jpg?cld_params=q_auto,w_auto:100:521\/q_auto,w_auto:100:521\/q_auto,w_auto:100:521\/q_auto,w_auto:100:521\/q_auto,w_auto:100:521\/q_auto,w_auto:100:521\" alt=\"how to keep track of sheets AutoCAD\" width=\"521\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-07_wbboii.jpg 521w, https:\/\/www.autodesk.com/blogs\/autocad\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2020\/04\/SST-07_wbboii-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, go back, and get rid of the \u201ca\u201d for all the renumbered sheets. Not the fastest method, but at least you won\u2019t lose track of your sheets.<\/p>\n<p>SSM is a fantastic tool to automate the management of your layouts, and with these tips, you\u2019ll love it even more.<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
